Building a cultural environment in press agencies that goes into depth and spreads widely
Speaking at the meeting on the "Urgency of building a cultural environment in press agencies", journalist Nguyen Duc Loi - Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association said that the emulation movement "Building a cultural environment in press agencies" has received positive responses and strong participation from most press agencies and all levels of the Vietnam Journalists Association across the country, meeting the practical needs of journalistic life in general and the working activities of journalists in particular, initially creating many positive changes in both awareness and action.
However, journalist Nguyen Duc Loi also assessed that in 2023, one of the things that made journalists the most worried was that there were many cases of journalists and collaborators at newspapers and magazines being prosecuted for the crime of "Extortion of property". Also in 2023, there were still many phenomena, many journalists, regardless of professional ethics regulations, regardless of all consequences, reported and took pictures of many characters and events just to attract views, there was still a phenomenon of many journalists writing wrongly without apologizing or correcting; writing news in a "hearsay" style; not "seeing with my own eyes, hearing with my own ears"...
The root cause of this sad situation is due to the lax management of press agencies, the influence and impact of the market economy in the conditions of low income of journalists, not enough to live on, pressure to run advertisements, sponsorships... but besides that, it cannot be denied that it is due to the lack of political and cultural capacity, moral degradation, and lifestyle of a part of journalists. There has been, and is still a part of journalists who simply consider journalism as a means of making a living... The cultural content in such journalistic works, in such journalists... has decreased to an alarming level...
Journalist Nguyen Duc Loi - Permanent Vice President of Vietnam Journalists Association spoke at the meeting.
The Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association assessed that for revolutionary journalists, behaviors that lack standards, ethics, and culture must be prevented and overcome. And to prevent and overcome, in addition to continuing to strengthen political, ideological, and ethical education for journalists, journalists must be required to comply with the law and the Press Law.
In addition to strictly implementing the professional ethics regulations of journalists, another "immediate task" is to continue to bring the emulation movement "Building a cultural environment in press agencies" into greater depth and spread more widely, thereby creating more substantial results and effectiveness.
The ultimate goal of revolutionary journalism is to serve the Fatherland, serve the people and guide people towards humanistic values in life. In addition to complying with the law in their work, journalists and press agencies must always start from a humanistic and cultural perspective to approach and reflect issues and events, creating valuable journalistic works, aiming to build a better society.
Journalist Nguyen Duc Loi hopes that at today's discussion session, he will hear many proposals, solutions, and approaches to make the emulation movement "building a cultural environment for journalism" more practical and effective.

At the discussion session, journalist Doan Minh Long, Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Journalists Association, said that currently, a significant number of press agencies, even some of them, due to petty ambitions and interests, have strayed from the principles and purposes of the newspaper, are indifferent to the public who read, watch, listen, and see them, seek out trivial tastes, choose topics, and produce content mainly to increase the number of visits, attract views, attract likes, etc.
Journalist Doan Minh Long, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial Journalists Association.
Journalist Doan Minh Long emphasized that in the above-mentioned practical context, raising awareness of culture, building and creating cultural spaces in journalism activities, building press agencies and the mettle of cultural journalists is a practical and urgent requirement.
Building a cultural environment in the Press agency with the aim of creating a positive, dynamic and creative working environment; at the same time, raising the awareness and responsibility of the staff, civil servants, public employees and workers in the press agency in order to promote the role of the agency's organizations and unions in building a scientific, orderly and disciplined working style and routine...
Every press agency needs to preserve the brand value of that press agency.
Journalist Nguyen Tien Thanh, Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper Life and Law, shared: I have a different perspective on building a cultural environment in press agencies and the culture of journalists. The question is why is it necessary to build a cultural environment in press agencies? In recent years, the way of doing journalism and journalists have changed. Unlike before, in addition to creating journalistic works, they also work in communications, journalism economics...
Journalist Nguyen Tien Thanh, Editor-in-Chief of Life and Law magazine.
Discussing solutions in the coming time, journalist Nguyen Tien Thanh shared that the important thing is to build core cultural values in the press agency, each press agency needs to preserve the brand value of that press agency, build a new cultural environment to create inspiration in that unit. It is not only about behavior but also related to the creative inspiration of reporters in that press agency. Building a cultural environment of journalism, it is not only about form, slogans but also needs to be associated with the ethics of journalists and the survival of that press agency".
According to journalist Pham Van Bau - Director of Thanh Hoa Radio and Television Station, Chairman of Thanh Hoa Journalists Association: To build a cultural environment in the press agency, to do this, the press also needs to promote the inclusion of culture in journalistic works. Try to bring cultural content, literary and artistic content into their journalistic works. In the trend of fast reading, hasty reading, there is a need for quality, in-depth journalistic works. Like Nhan Dan Newspaper and some newspapers have started to implement in-depth direction, because only those works have cultural elements, information, knowledge, literary and artistic content...
Regarding the issue of journalists violating regulations and ethics, journalist Pham Van Bau said that it is a clear fact that when we issue a rule or regulation, it often comes from real life. It clearly states what can and cannot be done. In fact, many journalists have violated the rules of using social networks, such as one-way information and leading information online.
"Many journalists express their personal opinions online, many contents are not published in newspapers but posted online. Trying to steer public opinion, delusional about their own power, there are still some groups that violate these rules. We have issued very strict regulations for us to implement," journalist Pham Van Bau shared.
Promote the exemplary and pioneering role of leaders
According to journalist Ho Quang Loi, former Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association: This discussion session has very practical content, hopefully in the future there will be more in-depth research on the cultural foundation and ethics of journalists, the working process of each editorial office. The discussion session "Building a cultural environment for journalism" has perspectives from many directions from press agencies, the Journalists Association at the grassroots level, and local perspectives. We will learn from the experiences of other press agencies that have done it and succeeded.
Previously, we always thought about amending the professional ethics of journalism to be compatible with the Press Law 2016, how to help improve culture, prevent violations by journalists. Therefore, the Regulations on professional ethics of journalists; Rules for using social networks of journalists were born, which are important bases for press agencies to study to carry out this task.
Journalist Ho Quang Loi, former Permanent Vice President of Vietnam Journalists Association.
Journalist Ho Quang Loi emphasized: To build a cultural environment for journalism, here I want to emphasize the exemplary role of the head of a news agency. If he does not set an example for his colleagues to follow, it will be very difficult to carry out this task. The head of the news agency will be like that.
"In all measures and solutions, I still want to emphasize the exemplary role and pioneering role of the leader and Party member. And we should not think of this as a movement but as a campaign. This needs to be maintained regularly and continuously, reaching every journalist and press agency. This will encourage, urge and deter each person," journalist Ho Quang Loi emphasized.
Journalist Phan Thanh Phong, Head of the Monthly People's Committee, discussed at the meeting.
Sharing at the discussion session, journalist Phan Thanh Phong - Head of the Monthly People's Committee said that if we do not build a cultural environment in the newsroom, we will not have journalistic works with high cultural content. A cultural newsroom will create cultural journalists and create cultural journalistic products.
"In Nhan Dan Newspaper, for many years, we have maintained a healthy environment in the press agency. We have examples from many previous generations. Currently, the editorial office has a methodical and serious work organization, while at the same time creating a working atmosphere, motivation, playground, and environment for each person to promote their abilities and qualities" - journalist Phan Thanh Phong shared more.
What we need to aim for is aspiration and a journalism that is not indifferent.
Sharing about this content, journalist Dao Xuan Hung, Editor-in-Chief of Natural Resources and Environment Magazine, said that it is necessary to effectively implement the emulation movement "Building a cultural environment in press agencies" in all press agencies, journalist associations from central to local levels and emulation in each individual journalist.
Because, if this is well implemented, it will multiply humanistic values, pride and self-respect in journalism, encourage each individual journalist and press unit to develop, unite and demonstrate the strength of journalism, contributing significantly to fighting against negative influences on cyberspace and journalism in the current context of 4.0 technology.
"To develop a cultural environment for journalism, there must be sufficient financial resources, in the form of state orders with press agencies, so that journalists can make a living from their profession and have enough income, thereby limiting negative behaviors in professional activities. At the same time, state management agencies for journalism and press agencies need to have strict sanctions to handle journalists who violate professional ethics to increase deterrence and warning," journalist Dao Xuan Hung added.
Journalist Nguyen Xuan Hai, Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, Chairman of the Ha Tinh Journalists Association.
Journalist Nguyen Xuan Hai, Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, Chairman of the Ha Tinh Journalists Association, shared some experiences in Ha Tinh province. Accordingly, journalist Nguyen Xuan Hai affirmed that it is necessary to determine what is the culture of journalism and culture in press agencies? Those must be values recognized by the community. There needs to be professionalism, humanity and modernity, to evaluate press agencies or cultural journalists based on those values.
Journalist Nguyen Xuan Hai shared: To create the identity and value of Vietnamese journalism culture, what we need to aim for is aspiration and a journalism that is not indifferent. When this is present, it will aim for skills and professional ethics, which will help to keep journalists from falling into error and following the norm. We need to fight for what is right, for progress. Strive to build and aim for journalists who are not indifferent, aiming for good things in society.
