(HNM) - In the information and communication front, Hanoi's press has been making many contributions by increasing the dissemination of information about all aspects of the capital's activities to the public nationwide, while comprehensively reflecting information about Vietnamese social life in general. Nowadays, in the context of the emergence of many new forms of media, the task of improving the quality of journalists at press agencies is always put first, in order to avoid falling behind. Hanoi Moi newspaper had an interview with Chairman of the Hanoi Journalists Association To Quang Phan on this issue.
- 2023 is considered a busy year for information and propaganda work when the Covid-19 pandemic has subsided and life is bustling again. How has the capital's press contributed to the information front after the pandemic, sir?
- In any period, any circumstance, the press always follows life closely to reflect the issues and events that are happening. In the past nearly 3 years, when the whole country had to face the Covid-19 pandemic, the capital's press always followed the mainstream events, provided standard and fast propaganda information, made a significant contribution to the country's information front, helping to successfully control the Covid-19 epidemic.
After the pandemic, the whole country focused on stabilizing social life. In that context, the City Journalists Association directed the capital's press agencies to actively encourage members to properly propagate political events, activities of Party and State leaders and key programs of Hanoi city, contributing to bringing the Party's Resolution into life.
Notably, the dissemination of Resolution No. 15-NQ/TW of the Politburo on "Orientations and tasks for the development of Hanoi Capital to 2030, with a vision to 2045"; Resolution No. 30-NQ/TW of the Politburo on socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the Red River Delta region to 2030, with a vision to 2045; the implementation of Resolution No. 56/2022/QH15 of the National Assembly and Resolution No. 07-NQ/TU of the Hanoi Party Committee on the policy of implementing the Investment project to build Ring Road 4 - Hanoi Capital Region...
In addition to providing accurate and timely information on the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's policies, the Capital's press has published many works that have discovered and exemplified advanced models and "Good people, good deeds" in the social life of the Capital and the whole country. The Capital's press has published many articles on the work of preventing and combating corruption and negativity; fighting and refuting wrongdoings and distortions by reactionary forces, contributing to protecting the Party's ideological foundation and preventing and combating "self-evolution" and "self-transformation" within the Party...
- In the era of information explosion, especially social networks with a lot of bad, toxic, fake news, newsrooms have set many new tasks to improve professional quality. What professional activities has the Hanoi Journalists Association done to support the capital's press agencies to keep up with the trend of developing modern, humane journalism?
- Contributing to the successful implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress on "Building a professional, humane and modern press and media" and the conclusion of the direction of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Cultural Conference on implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, responding to the movement of the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Journalists Association on "Building a cultural environment in press agencies", the City Journalists Association organized conferences to launch the movement and signed the emulation covenant "Building a cultural environment in press agencies and criteria for cultural press agencies and culture of Vietnamese journalists" in the press agencies of the capital.
Press agencies such as Hanoi Moi, Hanoi Radio and Television, Capital Security, Capital Women, Capital Youth, Capital Labor, etc. responded very early to this policy. The capital's press agencies have been building a professional, modern, and cultural journalism environment. It should be emphasized that, although Hanoi's press agencies still face financial difficulties, they have been focusing on investing in modern technology and equipment to try to keep up with world press trends.
- What practical activities has the Hanoi Journalists Association done to support journalists in the capital to improve their professional skills and create high-quality journalistic works, sir?
- The Association regularly develops plans and organizes training courses to improve the professional skills of reporters and editors of Hanoi press agencies. In 2023, the Hanoi Journalists Association will increase the number of training courses on modern journalism, applying advanced journalism technology taught and guided by experts.
Since the beginning of 2023, the Association has opened many training courses on "Skills to create high-quality press works"; "Using smartphones to produce press products"... In addition, the Association also sent members at press agencies to attend training courses and professional development courses on multimedia journalism, some specialized courses organized by the Vietnam Journalists Association Training Center. In addition, the Association and the Association of press agencies have also proactively organized training courses for reporters right at their units according to the content and actual needs.
Last May, the Hanoi Journalists Association coordinated with the Political Department of the Border Guard Command to organize a delegation to take reporters on a field trip to participate in the "Returning to the Source" program in Ca Mau and Kien Giang provinces. After the trip, there were many quality press works written about the military-civilian relationship and the activities of border guards, contributing to spreading and connecting the spirit of "Hanoi with the whole country, the whole country with Hanoi". This is a practical and effective professional activity, enthusiastically responded to by press agencies.
- The explosive development of digital technology and artificial intelligence poses many advantages and challenges for the world press in general and Vietnam in particular, requiring drastic innovation. For example, many press agencies must consider plans to soon complete the converged newsroom model, find ways to solve press economic problems... What direction and guidance has the Association provided for the capital's press agencies to keep up with the general trend while still ensuring that they operate in accordance with their principles and purposes?
- The development of a convergent newsroom model is an inevitable trend, forcing press agencies to strive to improve and innovate. In the era of technology explosion, the emergence of new forms of information, increasingly fierce information competition, the public's higher demands on the press..., press agencies are forced to innovate. Many convergent newsroom models have been successfully implemented, creating efficiency. Many press agencies in the capital have caught up with the trend of modern journalism, forming multimedia press products with many new forms of expression such as Megastory, Longform, Podcast, E-magazine...
However, in addition to the efforts and effectiveness that have been seen, the press is still facing many difficulties, especially in the issue of press economics. This is not a problem that can be solved overnight, requiring maximum efforts from the units. In order to do good press economics, press agencies need to create many good, sharp, quality press works, with their own unique direction but still have to adhere to the principles and purposes. In the coming time, the Association will continue to accompany press agencies, organize exchanges, share and exchange experiences with central and local press agencies. In addition, the Association continues to organize many training courses on professional skills to support press agencies to continuously improve the quality of press products in a professional, modern and humane direction.
