On April 22, the Ministry of Industry and Trade worked with energy sector units on the electricity supply situation during the April 30 and May 1 holidays and the dry season months of 2025.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Ninh, General Director of the National Electricity System and Market Operation Company Limited (NSMO), it is estimated that by the end of April 2025, the total electricity production and import output will reach about 98.7 billion kWh.
The power system encountered situations that affected its ability to ensure power supply, but power supply in the first four months of the year was still guaranteed.
During the April 30, May 1 and dry season months of 2025, NSMO has developed many different calculation scenarios. These include an extreme scenario to assess the ability to ensure electricity supply, a favorable scenario to assess fuel demand in case of low electricity demand, and a scenario to adjust the mobilization of Son La hydropower plant to increase flood prevention capacity, improving safety during the construction of the Hoa Binh hydropower expansion.
Regarding the overall electricity supply situation, the national and three-region power systems will ensure sufficient electricity supply during the dry season months and throughout 2025.
Also at the meeting, representatives of the units reported on the situation of electricity production, supply, coal and gas supply for electricity production and proposed coordination plans to ensure stable electricity supply in 2025, the April 30 and May 1 holidays and the peak hot months.
At the meeting, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien requested corporations, national energy corporations and relevant units to strictly implement the directions of the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, ensuring adequate electricity supply for production, business and people's lives in all situations.
Corporations, general companies and power plant investors must closely coordinate with NSMO to calculate, update and announce the demand for electricity mobilization in line with reality and with enough time for power plant investors to prepare sufficient fuel sources. At the same time, units must proactively reserve coal to be ready for power generation.
The Minister also requested all relevant units to make specific plans and assign shifts on duty during holidays and hot weather to be ready to handle incidents.
