WOMEN DO NOT ONLY KNOW HOW TO BE BEAUTIFUL, HAVE CHILDREN AND GO TO THE MARKET

There was a time when people thought women were not suited to football. Women could become excellent tennis players, famous athletes who would go down in history, legends in other sports like volleyball, but football was like a forbidden zone where people could not imagine women being able to compete like men.

The first Women's World Cup, held in China in 1991, was like a terrible hammer blow to the wall of gender prejudice in football. That World Cup, however, did not yet produce the kind of football that is attractive and attracts large audiences to the stadiums and in front of the TV screen as it does today. The quality of the matches was not too special and each half lasted only 40 minutes, 5 minutes less than men's football. People watched the matches and the development of women's football with skepticism and sarcasm. And only the strength, courage and outstanding efforts of the women's teams around the world in the World Cup every 4 years gradually broke down all doubts and gender discrimination.

Sometimes, even just one action can create waves of difference in raising the profile of women in soccer. At the 1999 World Cup, after scoring the decisive goal in the final match that brought the championship to the US team in front of more than 90,000 spectators at the Rose Bowl (USA), defender Brandi Chastain took off her jersey, revealing only her player bra underneath, in a historic celebration, just like her male colleagues often do.

The message is clear: there is no forbidden zone for women in sports. Any comparison with football is lame and women's football has its own appeal. It is no longer a tournament for female audiences or simply a playground for women who love football, it has attracted more and more male fans, who do not consider women to be born only to be beautiful, give birth, cook and go shopping! They also do not watch women's football just because of beautiful female players like Alex Morgan, they pay more attention to this playground because the quality of competition is improving with each World Cup and the female players themselves have become pioneers in demanding their rights.

WORLD C UP WOMEN ARE BECOMING MORE AND MORE ATTRACTIVE AND ATTRACTIVE

No one has forgotten the fight for equal pay for male soccer players that the US women’s team launched at the 2019 World Cup. The Women’s World Cup has become an opportunity for players not only to show their best, in a soccer that is becoming more and more attractive and bringing more and more spectators to the stadiums (average attendance has increased from 4,316 people per game in the 1995 World Cup to nearly 22,000 people per game in the 2019 World Cup), but also a great opportunity to voice their opinions on issues of concern.

The Women's World Cup has become an opportunity for players to not only show their best

The 2023 World Cup sees a major shift that shows the growth of women's football. It is the first time in history that the tournament will be held in two countries, and the number of teams participating in the finals has increased from 24 to 32, reflecting the fact that women's football is increasingly attracting attention from the public and sponsors. The US women's team still dominates, having won four of the eight World Cups (Germany has won twice, Norway and Japan once each), but the rise to professionalism is widespread in many of Europe's major football nations.

Vietnam Women's National Team and its historical mark

In this World Cup, for the first time, the Vietnamese women's team has a ticket to participate. Although we are ranked 35th in the world, a strong women's football team in Asia, but certainly the upcoming journey in New Zealand will be extremely difficult, when we have to face the defending champion USA, the defending runner-up Netherlands and Portugal, the team is 14 places ahead of us in the FIFA rankings. The Diamond Girls are the queens of Southeast Asia, the conquerors of the SEA Games gold medals, but the World Cup is clearly on a completely different level. But being there makes history for Vietnamese football.

Regardless, the World Cup will be an unforgettable journey for Vietnamese female players and fans. And the fact that the tournament is broadcast live in Vietnam is also an opportunity for us to see how far women's football has come and what Vietnam needs to do to develop.
