Vu Minh Huyen (born in 2001, Hai Phong), a former student of the National Economics University, has excellently won a full scholarship for a master's degree from the Irish Government GOI-IES in the field of Msc Human Resource Management at University College Dublin, with a competition rate of only 1% out of 5,800 global candidates.

From excellent student to leader of international cooperation programs

Minh Huyen said she chose to pursue the Advanced International Business major because of the advice of her family and teachers, and the desire to have the opportunity to experience and understand more about many areas in business.

With a clear direction and constant efforts, Minh Huyen has affirmed herself through outstanding achievements while studying Advanced International Business at the National Economics University with the top 5 students with the best thesis scores in the major, achieving IELTS 7.5. Minh Huyen shares about two memorable experiences, the stepping stones that contributed to her academic journey.

The first achievement that she always remembers is becoming the author of 5 scientific articles published in national and international conferences and journals. Huyen said that participating in research not only helped her prepare well for the path of master's scholarship but also provided her with valuable experiences, giving her profound lessons.

"When working with teachers at the National Economics University, I learned how to conduct scientific research systematically, helping me develop my thinking skills and work independently. In addition, participating in many research projects also helped me better understand the importance of teamwork and the ability to solve difficult situations during cooperation," the female international student shared.

The second achievement that Minh Huyen feels extremely proud of is the opportunity to work as a collaborator at the school's International Cooperation Department under the guidance of Ms. Trang and Ms. Giang. Although at the end of 2022, when she received advice from Ms. Giang about scholarships to study abroad, she realized that those opportunities were no longer suitable for her because she was a final year student, but another special opportunity came. In early 2023, when the International Cooperation Department participated in organizing two major programs - the International Student Exchange Program with Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore and the YSEALI International Conference 2023, Minh Huyen was given the opportunity to participate and take on the role of leader.

"Participating in programs not only helps me connect with international friends but also gives me extremely rich experiences about cultures and people from many different countries. This makes me even more curious and eager to explore the world," she expressed.

The secret to winning prestigious scholarships

Minh Huyen shared that the journey to win prestigious scholarships such as the Irish Government Scholarship, Finnish Scholarship and Global Excellence Scholarship is the result of continuous efforts in studying, extracurricular activities and comprehensive self-development.

According to the female international student, the most important factor is how she makes the most of the opportunities and experiences at the National Economics University. From taking on the role of Secretary of the Youth Union, participating in scientific research to being active in extracurricular activities, she always tries her best to both achieve results, contribute values and learn more meaningful things.

"When preparing my scholarship application, I realized that each experience I went through was an important milestone, helping me create a convincing personal story in my essay and scholarship application. These experiences not only brought me knowledge but also trained my skills, helping me to mature and become more confident," Minh Huyen shared. It was her dedication and spirit of constant self-improvement that helped her conquer prestigious international scholarship programs.

Currently, Minh Huyen is studying for a master's degree in Human Resource Management at University College Dublin (UCD) with a prestigious scholarship from the Irish Government GOI-IES. She shared that the program has opened up a deeper perspective on the field of Human Resource Management, and helped her discover interesting similarities between Ireland - a developed country in Europe - and Vietnam.

Minh Huyen participates in the International Student Exchange Program between National Economics University and Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore 2023.

In particular, the international learning environment at UCD provided Huyen with valuable experiences in cultural and linguistic diversity. “My major brings together 60 classmates from all over the world such as the UK, the US, China, Portugal, Brazil, India, Ireland, Nigeria, and many other countries. This not only helps me learn how to understand and adapt to different ‘accents’ of English, but also opens up opportunities for me to learn about the culture, lifestyle, and unique communication styles of each country,” Minh Huyen shared.

She admitted that, to adapt quickly in a new environment, there is no other way but to communicate more, observe and learn from each encounter. “Cultural and language differences are challenges, but also great lessons that help me practice effective communication skills and build consensus in a multinational group,” Huyen added. These experiences not only help her mature but also serve as a stepping stone to help her assert her position in a competitive international academic environment.

Unlocking potential from extracurricular activities

In addition to her studies, Minh Huyen has been serving as Vice President of the Executive Committee of the Vietnamese Students Association in Ireland. This position has opened up opportunities for Minh Huyen to participate in organizing many meaningful events such as the 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival, the Howth Hiking 2024 climbing program for new students, and especially the event to welcome the General Secretary and President of Vietnam during the State visit to Ireland in October 2024.

Minh Huyen was honored to attend the meeting between General Secretary and President To Lam and the Vietnamese community in Ireland in 2024.

What is special is that Minh Huyen took on this role in July 2024, when she was still in Vietnam and had not officially set foot in Ireland. That created a lot of pressure, but it was also that pressure that helped Huyen try harder to be worthy of this position. Through extracurricular activities, Huyen not only learned from the experiences of her seniors but also quickly connected with the Vietnamese community in Ireland. These experiences contributed to shaping her organizational skills, leadership thinking and helping Huyen quickly adapt to the new environment.

Learn to understand, learn to apply

Sharing about effective learning methods, for Minh Huyen, connecting with alumni and predecessors to grasp learning methods is not only the fastest way to help her learn something but also gives her a great source of inspiration. In addition, the female international student believes that always focusing on understanding knowledge deeply, not just simply memorizing is the secret to helping her remember longer and learn more deeply. She often asks questions to look back at the problem, making sure she understands correctly and clearly. "Learning is to understand and to apply," Huyen emphasized.

Minh Huyen shared that her working experience at One Mount was an experience that helped her gain more confidence in her career orientation and passion for the field of Training and Human Resource Development in the human resources and organizational management industry that she chose from previous experiences.

"At One Mount, I faced more difficult, challenging, and stressful training problems. But those things helped me understand the job more deeply and learn more," Minh Huyen said. The experiences here not only helped the female student practice her skills but also affirmed that the field of human resources and organizational management is the path she wants to stick with for a long time.

Sharing her future goals, Minh Huyen said she wants to continue learning and researching more deeply about human resource policies at leading technology companies in Ireland. She hopes that the knowledge and experience she has accumulated will help her contribute more to the development of the human resource sector in Vietnam.

To young people on the journey to conquer their dreams, Minh Huyen wants to send the message: "Believe in yourself and try your best for your goals. I always believe that 'if you keep going, you will get there, the important thing is to be willing to go'. You will find a way to achieve your dreams, so don't hesitate to go and believe in yourself".
