According to records from noon to early afternoon on May 5, some areas in Ho Chi Minh City such as Thu Duc City, Go Vap District, Tan Binh District, District 12, etc. had rain and gusty winds. In Thu Duc City, heavy rain and strong thunderstorms caused some trees to fall and damaged the roofs of some shops on Pham Van Dong Street.
Meanwhile, some areas in districts 5, 6, 7, 8 have cloudy skies, light winds, but no rain.
The Southern Hydrometeorological Station said that monitoring satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning images showed that thunderstorms were developing and causing rain and lightning in the districts including Thu Duc City, Can Gio, Binh Chanh, District 8, Binh Tan District, District 11, District 5, District 10, Binh Thanh District, District 1, Phu Nhuan District, Go Vap District, Hoc Mon District, District 12, and Cu Chi District.
It is forecasted that from noon to the afternoon of May 5, thunderstorms will continue to cause showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in the above areas, then expand to other neighboring areas. Rainfall is generally from 10 - 20 mm, in some places over 25 mm. During thunderstorms, beware of tornadoes, hail and strong gusts of wind of about level 5 - 7 (8 - 17m/s).

According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, due to disturbances in the upper East wind zone (causing rain) tending to move inland, affecting the weather of the Southern region and Ho Chi Minh City, it is forecasted that from today (May 5) to May 8, Ho Chi Minh City area is likely to have scattered showers and thunderstorms with some places having moderate rain, beware of tornadoes and gusts of wind during thunderstorms.
In the coming days, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to experience seasonal rains. People need to be on guard against extreme weather phenomena such as gusts of wind, tornadoes, lightning, and hail that may appear during thunderstorms.

In the coming hours, thunderstorms will continue to develop and cause showers with thunderstorms and lightning in the above areas, then the thunderstorms will tend to expand and spread to other neighboring areas. Rainfall is generally from 10 - 20mm, in some places over 25mm. During thunderstorms, beware of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind at level 5 - 7 (8 - 17m/s).
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting also said that this afternoon (May 5), in the Central Highlands and the South, there will be showers and thunderstorms, with some areas having heavy to very heavy rain.
