On May 16, in the capital Bucharest, a working session took place between ASEAN Ambassadors and Mr. Toni Grebla, Chairman of the Romanian National Election Commission, as the guest of honor.
The meeting, organized by Vietnam - Chair of the ASEAN Ambassadors' Group in Romania (from October 2023 to June 2024), was held within the framework of the activities of the ASEAN Committee in Bucharest (including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam).
At the meeting, the Ambassadors listened to Mr. Toni Grebla introduce the 2024 election campaign, Romania's "election year" with 4 important elections: Romanian Local Elections and European Parliament (June 9); Presidential Election (September 15-29) and Romanian Parliamentary Election (December 8).
Delegates discussed enthusiastically issues related to the election process; mechanisms to ensure fairness and transparency; regulations on funding for election campaigns; and the rate of people participating in voting.
The Romanian government 's measures to combat fake news and vote manipulation through the use of artificial intelligence; the impact of the election on domestic affairs and the future of Romania's foreign policy with countries in and outside the region after the election... were also discussed at the event.

The President of the Romanian National Election Commission, Toni Grebla, shared a lot of information about the overall picture regarding the electoral situation in the country.
The meeting took place in an open and sincere atmosphere, contributing to strengthening the friendly relations and promoting cooperation between ASEAN countries and Romania. These exchanges provided much useful information for ASEAN diplomatic staff as Romania is preparing for key elections that will determine the country's future in the coming years.
