Seize the opportunity, turn Romania into Vietnam's gateway to Europe

(Dan Tri) - "The two sides need to take advantage of opportunities to promote trade cooperation, turning Romania into Vietnam's gateway to Europe," Prime Minister Ion Marcel Ciolacu said during talks with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
The heads of the two governments of Vietnam and Romania held talks on the morning of January 22 (local time), after the welcoming ceremony for Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official visit to Romania. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked Romania for its warm, respectful and thoughtful reception for the Vietnamese delegation. He also emphasized that Vietnam will never forget Romania's valuable support in the struggle for independence and national construction over the past 75 years, especially in helping Vietnam train more than 4,000 students and postgraduates - who have made great contributions to Vietnam and the relationship between the two countries in many different positions.

During the talks, the heads of the two governments discussed major orientations and specific measures to promote the traditional friendship between the two countries to a new height. Regarding political and diplomatic cooperation, the two sides agreed to increase contacts and exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones, through all channels of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly, people-to-people exchanges, and cooperation between localities. This orientation aims to further enhance political trust and mutual understanding, creating a foundation for promoting and expanding bilateral cooperation in all fields. Regarding economic, trade and investment cooperation, the two Prime Ministers affirmed that this is an important pillar in bilateral relations, so it is necessary to promote economic, trade and investment relations commensurate with political relations.

In addition, the two countries need to promote existing cooperation mechanisms and encourage businesses of the two countries to continue to fully and effectively implement the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam is ready to play the role of a gateway for Romanian goods to access the Vietnamese and ASEAN markets. Once again, the Vietnamese Government leader thanked Romania for strongly promoting the signing of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and also being one of the first countries in the EU to ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement ( EVIPA). In this spirit, the Prime Minister asked Romania to continue to speak up to urge the remaining EU countries to soon ratify the EVIPA and the European Commission (EC) to soon remove the "yellow card" on Vietnamese seafood. Prime Minister Ion Marcel Ciolacu assessed Vietnam as one of Romania's most potential markets in the Asia-Pacific region. He said that more and more Romanian businesses are interested in expanding their investment and business in Vietnam. The Romanian Prime Minister said that the two sides should take advantage of opportunities to promote cooperation in the fields of trade, logistics, tourism and turn Romania into Vietnam's gateway to Europe, in the context that the country is about to join the Schengen area in March.

The two Prime Ministers also agreed to promote effective cooperation in traditional areas such as education - training, science and technology, security - defense, culture - sports - tourism, labor, health - pharmaceuticals; at the same time promote the expansion of cooperation in new areas such as information technology, innovation, digital transformation, green transformation, circular economy, etc. Discussing international issues, the two leaders affirmed the importance of resolving disputes by peaceful means, not using or threatening to use force, in accordance with international law.
Vietnam - Romania signed a Memorandum of Understanding on labor cooperation . After the talks, the two Prime Ministers witnessed the signing ceremony of 19 cooperation documents between ministries, branches and localities of the two countries in the fields of economy, culture, labor and education and training. In particular, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Labor and Social Solidarity of Romania on cooperation in the field of labor and social security.

The Memorandum of Understanding aims to promote and develop cooperation activities in the field of labor and social security. Some areas of cooperation agreed by the two sides include: Labor policies and laws; activities related to active employment policies for disadvantaged groups in the labor market; social protection and assistance for vulnerable groups; integration policies for people with disabilities, ensuring an environment for people with disabilities to have unrestricted access to independent life. In addition, the Labor Ministries of Vietnam and Romania also orient cooperation on labor migration policies, aiming to improve workers' skills and reduce illegal labor.
