Vietnam has received more than 100 citizens arrested and deported by Cambodian authorities on gambling charges, the Foreign Ministry said.
According to information from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Sihanoukville, on March 9, more than 100 citizens working illegally at an online gambling and fraud facility in Cambodia were arrested and deported, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said today. On March 11, the Consulate General coordinated with Cambodian and domestic authorities to implement consular measures, receiving these citizens through the Prek Chak - Ha Tien border gate.

Khmer Times previously reported that Cambodian authorities raided the Paradis Island casino on March 9, arresting 172 foreigners, including 109 Vietnamese. The Vietnamese group was among those taken to the Cambodian Immigration Department for deportation.
In addition to the incident in Cambodia, Thai PBS reported on March 7 that Thai police arrested 18 Vietnamese people when searching an apartment in Bangkok. The group of Vietnamese people were accused of running an online gambling ring since November 2023. Authorities seized 39 exhibits and handed them over to investigators for legal action.
According to the spokesperson, the Vietnamese Embassy in Bangkok has contacted local authorities to find out information and verify the identities of the 18 people mentioned above. These people were arrested for participating in organizing games or fraud, helping to advertise or invite others to play and gamble through illegal electronic means.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that citizens be wary of job offers with high salaries, no qualifications required, no contracts, and not through businesses or labor sending organizations.
"Citizens need to carefully research the job content, unit, workplace, relatives of the person introducing them, the regime, and benefits to make the right decision before going to work abroad," said Ms. Pham Thu Hang.
