Vietnam's tourism industry received a shower of awards at the World Travel Awards 2023 (WTA).
At the WTA Asia and Oceania awards ceremony on the evening of September 6 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's tourism management agencies, tourist attractions, airlines, hotels and resorts were named.
Vietnam was honored with the awards "Asia's Leading Destination" and "Asia's Leading Natural Tourist Destination" in 2023.
Vietnam National Administration of Tourism received the award for leading tourism agency in Asia. This is the fourth time Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has been awarded this prestigious award after 2017, 2021 and 2022.
Hanoi tourism received 3 awards: Asia's Leading City Destination, Asia's Leading City Destination for Short Breaks and Asia's Leading City Tourism Authority.
According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the award is an encouragement and recognition for the outstanding efforts of the entire tourism industry in the capital to recover and develop the tourism industry after the COVID-19 pandemic with many challenges such as disease risks, climate change, environmental pollution and political and economic instability.
Following its success in 2022, Ho Chi Minh City continued to win the Asia's Leading Business Travel Destination award; and took home the Asia's Leading Festival and Event Destination award last year from Da Nang.
Hoi An was named Asia's Leading Cultural City Destination. Phu Quoc was named “Asia's Leading Luxury Island”.
Notably, Ha Giang won the Asia's Leading Emerging Destination award for the first time. The Asia's Leading Regional Cultural Destination 2023 award went to Ha Nam and the Asia's Leading Regional Natural Destination 2023 title was awarded to Moc Chau. Cuc Phuong was Asia's Leading National Park for the fifth consecutive time.
Vietjet Air won Asia's Leading Airline for Passenger Experience, while Bamboo Airways had the top frequent flyer program. Hai Au Aviation was named the top seaplane airline.
Capella Hanoi, Banyan Tree Lang Co (Hue), Six Senses Ninh Van Bay (Khanh Hoa), Hôtel des Arts Saigon, MGallery Collection (Ho Chi Minh City), InterContinental Phu Quoc Long Beach Resort (Kien Giang)... are some of the Vietnamese representatives that won awards in the hotel and resort category.
Vietravel was honored as “Asia's Leading Tour Operator 2023” and Sun Group as “Asia's Leading Tourism Group”, affirming the position of Vietnamese brands in the international arena.
“11 consecutive years of winning this major award has shown the tireless efforts of Vietravel Group in particular and the Vietnamese tourism and travel industry in general after suffering severe consequences from Covid-19. Expressing pride when the group continued to be honored by WTA in 5 categories, Ms. Tran Thi Nguyen, Deputy General Director of Sun World of Sun Group, expressed her desire to bring tourists the most classy experiences, while contributing to shaping Vietnamese tourism associated with diverse experiences in entertainment, and luxury in the resort tourism segment, instead of the image of cheap tourism with very few experiences like more than 10 years ago.
During the Asia and Oceania regional awards night, representatives of the tourism industry from China, India, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Malaysia, etc. also won many prestigious awards.
Japan is the continent's top adventure and heritage destination. Thailand won 11 awards, mostly in leisure categories, most notably the award for Top Marketing Campaign, Visit Thailand Year 2023 Amazing New Chapters, from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
The WTA is an annual award that honors the best service providers in all areas of the travel industry. This prestigious and influential award is considered the “Oscar of the travel industry”. Vietnam is the destination marking the second leg of the landmark 30th anniversary of the WTA. Following the award ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City, WTA will organize commemorative events in Batumi (Georgia) and Dubai (UAE).
