Vietnam has repatriated nearly 400 more citizens stranded in northern Myanmar due to conflict, following the initial repatriation of over 1,000.
In the second evacuation phase, nearly 400 Vietnamese citizens stranded in northern Myanmar due to armed conflict were brought back to Vietnam by land in the early hours of December 30, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement today.
In two phases, a total of nearly 1,400 Vietnamese citizens were evacuated from Myanmar, with all repatriation costs covered by the Vietnamese government . Vietnam also assisted in the evacuation of one Nepalese citizen from Myanmar.

The Vietnamese citizens stranded in Myanmar are mostly young people, including teenagers, infants, and pregnant women, who went abroad to work in online gambling establishments in the northern states of Myanmar and were abandoned by their employers.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises citizens to be wary of offers to work abroad in "easy jobs with high salaries," requiring no qualifications or skills, without a signed contract, and not through a labor dispatching company or organization. This is to avoid becoming victims of labor exploitation, human trafficking, or illegal residency.
The Brotherhood, a group of insurgents, launched Operation 1027 in late October, attacking a series of Myanmar military bases in Shan State, near the border with China, marking the largest offensive by rebel groups against Myanmar's military government since the 2021 coup.
The fighting has spurred other rebel groups to join the attacks on the government. The conflicts in Myanmar have lasted for weeks, spreading to the east and west of the country.
Given the complex and evolving conflict situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Vietnamese citizens to avoid these areas and to follow instructions from embassies and local authorities. If in areas where fighting is likely to break out, citizens should proactively evacuate themselves and their property and contact Vietnamese authorities for assistance if needed.
