The opening ceremony of the 6th China International Import Expo (CIIE 2023) and the 2023 Hongqiao International Trade Forum took place in Shanghai, China. CIIE 2023 will last until November 10, 2023.
In 2023, the CIIE Fair with the theme of “New Era, Towards the Future” will have an exhibition area of over 300,000m2, including the National Exhibition Area for participating countries and the Commercial Exhibition Area displaying 6 main product categories: Smart technology equipment, consumer electronics, automobile industry, accessories and consumer goods, agricultural products and food, medical equipment and health care products. This year, the fair attracted the participation of businesses from 150 countries and territories around the world.

Vietnam participates in CIIE 2023 as an Honorary Country. The high-ranking Vietnamese delegation is led by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, along with leaders of a number of Vietnamese ministries, sectors and localities.
Participating in this year's fair, the 256m2 Vietnam National Pavilion focuses on introducing and promoting information, achievements and economic potential, promoting investment, trade and tourism of Vietnam, displaying documents, publications, and typical export products of Vietnamese enterprises with brands in the agricultural and processed food industry.
Next to the National Pavilion is the Commercial Pavilion of Vietnamese enterprises, with the participation of nearly 40 enterprises displaying specialized agricultural products and processed foods on an area of 400m2.

In order to enhance trade promotion activities directly supporting Vietnamese enterprises on the occasion of CIIE 2023, in addition to organizing for Vietnamese enterprises to exhibit at the Trade Pavilion, the Ministry of Industry and Trade assigned the Trade Promotion Department to organize 2 trade and investment promotion conferences between Vietnamese and Chinese enterprises in Jiangsu province (November 7, 2023) and Shanghai city (November 9, 2023). It is expected that more than 100 representatives of enterprises from the two countries in the fields of import and export, investment promotion, agriculture - aquatic products, and consumer goods will attend each conference.
China has now become one of Vietnam's largest partners, not only in terms of scale but also in terms of the positive shift in the trade structure between the two sides. In the first 9 months of 2023, Vietnam's total import-export turnover with China reached 122 billion USD, down 8.2% over the same period in 2022. Of which, Vietnam's export turnover to China reached 42.9 billion USD, up 3.6% over the same period in 2022, accounting for 16.6% of Vietnam's total exports to the world. Vietnam's import turnover from China reached 79.2 billion USD, down 13.5% over the same period in 2022, accounting for 33.4% of Vietnam's total imports from the world. Vietnam's trade deficit with China was worth 36.3 billion USD, down 27.7% over the same period in 2022.

Vietnam and China have many similarities in culture, customs, geographical location, and at the same time, the transport infrastructure, technical facilities, and policy environment are also very favorable. Therefore, Vietnam's participation in the annual CIIE Fair not only contributes to promoting the national image in terms of economy, investment and tourism, but also is a good opportunity to contribute to the completion of economic goals: Increasing official and sustainable exports to the Chinese market and reducing the trade deficit from the Chinese market; Promoting the brand and image of Vietnamese enterprises to China and other countries in the world, in order to attract foreign investment, creating conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to seek markets and expand their business.
Within the framework of the "Belt and Road" International Cooperation Summit held in May 2017 in Beijing, China, General Secretary - President of China Xi Jinping announced the initiative to organize the China International Import Exposition (CIIE) which received the welcome and consensus of the countries attending the Forum, including Vietnam. The fair, hosted by the Chinese Government, assigned to the Ministry of Commerce of China and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, is held annually in Shanghai since 2018. It is considered an important trade promotion event, with the goal of opening the Chinese market to the world, creating opportunities for countries to access China's vast market of over 1.4 billion people, contributing to promoting the "Belt and Road" initiative as well as the globalization process. |
