Vietnam – Qatar agree to soon elevate bilateral relations to new heights

TPO - To meet the needs and exploit the potential for cooperation between Vietnam and Qatar, during the talks, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdurahman Al Thani discussed and agreed to soon elevate bilateral relations to a new level.

On October 31, after a solemn official welcoming ceremony at the Royal Palace, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held extensive talks and discussions with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdurahman Al Thani.

The Qatari Prime Minister affirmed that the official visit to Qatar by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is an important milestone, creating momentum to promote the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries to a new, deeper and broader stage. For his part, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the vision, thinking, governance and development methods of Qatar and wished to further promote the Vietnam - Qatar cooperation in the coming time, for the benefit of the people of the two countries. Economic and trade cooperation is an important pillar. The two leaders said that the economic and trade relations are not yet commensurate with the good political relations as well as the potential and competitive advantages of each country. Agreeing that the Vietnam - Qatar relationship has entered a new, deeper and more comprehensive stage, to meet the needs and exploit the potential for cooperation between the two countries, the two Prime Ministers discussed and agreed to soon elevate the bilateral relationship to a new level.

To achieve the above goals, the two sides agreed to identify economic, trade and investment cooperation as an important pillar in the bilateral relationship. The two sides agreed to coordinate, diversify and facilitate the exchange of each other's strengths in trade such as agricultural products, seafood, footwear, textiles, etc. of Vietnam and energy and chemicals of Qatar. The Prime Minister asked Qatar to support Vietnam in developing the Halal industry, especially sharing experiences and transferring technology, investing in production and processing, thereby contributing to ensuring food security for Qatar and contributing to increasing trade turnover between the two countries. The Government leader also proposed to study and promote negotiations on a bilateral free trade agreement between Vietnam and Qatar, as well as between Vietnam and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in the coming time. Considering the negotiation of visa exemption agreement , stressing that Vietnam always values ​​“time” and “intelligence”, the Prime Minister hopes that Qatari investment funds will further increase their investment in Vietnam in the fields of strategic infrastructure, energy, seaports, agricultural and aquatic production and processing.... Vietnam commits to always support and create all conditions for Qatari investment funds and enterprises to invest and do business conveniently, effectively and sustainably in Vietnam.

The Prime Minister of Qatar agreed with the Prime Minister's proposal to increase scholarships for more Vietnamese students to study in Qatar, and to create favorable conditions for receiving more workers, especially highly skilled Vietnamese workers, to work in Qatar. The Prime Minister asked Qatar to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in Qatar. The two sides will consider negotiating a visa exemption agreement for ordinary passport holders to facilitate travel between the people of the two countries.
