There are currently more than 3,000 Vietnamese students studying at universities in Russia. Every year, Russia awards 1,000 scholarships to Vietnam (second only to Belarus).

On November 28, the Russian Embassy in Vietnam, in coordination with the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Hanoi, held a press conference on Russia-Vietnam cooperation in the fields of education and humanities; developing relations between social organizations and educational institutions of the two countries to train experts, managers and link scientific research in the field of high technology, while promoting Russia-Vietnam cultural exchange.

Attending the press conference were Mr. Evgenyalex Androvich Primakov, Director of the Russian Cooperation Agency (Rossotrudnichestvo), Director of the Department of Multilateral Humanitarian Cooperation and Cultural Links (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation) Alexander Sergeevich Alimov, Charge d'Affaires of the Russian Embassy in Vietnam Ivan Segeevich Nesterov and representatives of domestic and international press agencies.

The program is held in the context of the two countries celebrating the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the basic principles of friendly relations (1994-2024) and the 74th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Russia diplomatic relations (1950-2024) along with many other important events.

Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Primakov said that Rossotrudnichestvo has a network of cultural centers in 70 countries and territories.

These cultural centers offer Russian-language education; organize seminars and conferences on culture, science and art; represent students in Russian universities…

Every year, about 30 thousand foreign students come to Russia to study, bringing the number of international students in the land of birch trees to 360 thousand people. Notably, these people, after finishing their studies in Russia, return to serve their homeland and country.

According to Mr. Primakov, Vietnam is an important partner, given top priority in educational and training cooperation with Russia. Currently, there are more than 3,000 Vietnamese students studying at universities in Russia.

The Russian Federation’s provision of 1,000 scholarships to Vietnam every year (second only to Belarus) is a very meaningful activity to give Vietnamese students the opportunity to study and train in a professional training environment, becoming leading experts upon returning home. This will be an important human resource contributing to serving the socio-economic development needs of Vietnam in the coming time.

He appreciated the cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Training in supporting scholarship programs from Russia, creating conditions for students to study in Russia.

The Director of Rossotrudnichestvo is also very optimistic about further development in educational and training cooperation between the two countries.

According to the Director of the Department for Multilateral Humanitarian Cooperation and Cultural Relations (Russian Foreign Ministry) Alexander Sergeevich Alimov, there are about 250 million people in the world who speak Russian, the fifth most widely used language in the world. He said: “To preserve and develop the Russian language, we actively promote and organize the teaching of this language in many countries. I very much welcome the contribution of Russian teachers and interpreters”.

Mr. Alimov was impressed when Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong - Head of the Vietnamese delegation spoke fluent Russian at the International Forum of Associated Cultures in St. Petersburg.

According to the Director of the Department of Multilateral Humanitarian Cooperation and Cultural Relations, Vietnam is a trustworthy and open cooperation partner. He hopes that this relationship will continue to develop in the future.

Charge d'Affaires of the Russian Embassy in Vietnam Ivan Segeevich Nesterov said that Vietnam is a long-standing friend and partner of Russia. Relations with Vietnam are a top priority in Russia's foreign policy, with visits by high-ranking leaders of the two countries in recent years.

“The leaders of the two countries are determined to develop the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries in the fields of economics, trade, oil and gas, automobile industry, agriculture, humanitarian cooperation, human resource training, culture, and education. We can look to the future of Vietnam-Russia relations very optimistically,” Mr. Nesterov emphasized.

From November 26-28, a Russian delegation led by Director of the Russian Cooperation Agency Evgenyalex Androvich Primakov visited Hanoi. The delegation had a regional meeting of Rossotrudnichestvo representatives in the Middle East, South Asia and Southeast Asia.

The delegation also had working sessions with the Committee for Culture and Education of the National Assembly of Vietnam; Ministry of Education and Training; Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations; Veterans Association. The delegation also laid wreaths at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs.
