Vietnam won 3 gold medals at the Hong Kong (China) Open Athletics Championships

According to information from the Vietnam Athletics Federation, the 2024 Hong Kong (China) Open Athletics Championship will take place on May 4-5 at Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground, with the participation of athletes from Hong Kong and Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, Singapore, Philippines...

Nguyen Thi Oanh won convincingly at the Hong Kong (China) Open Athletics Championship.

The Vietnamese Athletics team participated in the tournament with 6 members including: Head of Delegation Nguyen Manh Hieu, Coach Tran Van Sy and 4 female athletes: Nguyen Thi Oanh, Bui Thi Nguyen, Hoang Thanh Giang and Bui Thi Loan. The tour is part of the 2024 plan of the Vietnamese Athletics team and is an opportunity to check and evaluate the training process of the team's athletes in the past time and prepare for the Asian Indoor Games in November.

Despite the unfavorable weather conditions on the first day of competition, the Vietnamese Athletics team made great efforts and achieved good results (winning 3 gold medals and 2 bronze medals) as well as achieving professional parameters.

Among the medals won, runner Nguyen Thi Oanh stood out in the women's 3,000m hurdles with a time of 10 minutes 15 seconds 84 (10:15.84). In addition, Oanh also won a gold medal in the women's 5,000m with a time of 16 minutes 23 seconds 17. Another gold medal for Vietnamese Athletics at this tournament went to athlete Bui Thi Loan in the triple jump with a time of 13.07m, Bui Thi Loan also won a bronze medal in the long jump with a time of 6.01m. The remaining bronze medal went to athlete Bui Thi Nguyen in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13 seconds 68. Athlete Hoang Thanh Giang only won 4th place in the long jump with a time of 5.92m.

Head Coach of the Vietnam Athletics Team Nguyen Manh Hieu said that the athletes competing in this tournament with the main goal of testing and evaluating the training process and ensuring the professional requirements set by the Coaching Board. This is a good opportunity for the athletes to compete and prepare best for the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIAMG) taking place in Thailand this coming November.

The tournament also recognized the efforts of the Vietnam Athletics Federation to socialize Athletics through international cooperation. With the close relationship between the two sides, the Hong Kong Athletics Federation (China) decided to cover the food and accommodation expenses for 5 members of the National Athletics Team registered by the Vietnam Athletics Federation. This is a significant resource, supporting the State budget in sending the team to compete internationally in 2024.
