Vietnam tops list of favorite foreign tourist destinations for Koreans

Besides Japan, Vietnam has become a favorite destination for Korean tourists of all ages, with high booking demand in the third quarter of this year.

Group Kyowon Tour Travel Easy announced the “Overseas Travel Trends in Q3/2024 and Popular Travel Destinations” based on the analysis of travel booking data in the third quarter of this year.

Accordingly, the trend of foreign travel in the third quarter, including summer vacation and Chuseok holiday (Mid-Autumn Festival holiday).

The third quarter of 2024 was also the first quarter in which Vietnam surpassed Japan with a booking rate of 13.7%, higher than Japan's 13.2%; followed by China with a rate of 11.7%; Thailand ranked 4th (9.0%) and Mongolia (7.1%) ranked 5th.

Due to the impact of high inflation, more and more customers choose foreign tourist destinations during the holidays or take vacations early to avoid peak seasons, in order to reduce the cost burden.

During the peak season (July 26 – August 4), short-haul destinations topped the list. Vietnam topped the list (18.2%), followed by Japan (13.0%), China (12.6%), Thailand (8.9%) and the Philippines (7.6%). Demand for Vietnam travel increased even more significantly during the holiday season.

A report from Kyowon Tour Travel Easy also predicts that during this year's Chuseok holiday (September 14-22), the demand for overseas travel will be greater than ever as people can take up to nine days off by combining two annual leave days.

As autumn approaches, demand to Southeast Asia declines, while demand to Japan (17.0%), China (14.7%), Vietnam (14.4%) and Europe increases sharply.

“The popularity of China, along with Japan and Vietnam, is expected to continue to rise,” said a representative of Travel Easy. “In September, demand for long-haul travel to Western and Eastern Europe is expected to increase again.”

Previously, the Korean newspaper AsiaA reported that there are many reasons why Korean tourists love and choose Vietnam. Familiar destinations include Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Da Nang, etc.

According to a survey by Yonhap News, Da Nang and Ha Long are still considered “resort paradises” for Korean tourists. And the number of tourists from Korea to Phu Quoc also tends to increase.

Meanwhile, the Korea Herald newspaper said: "Nha Trang is now becoming a long-term destination for young Koreans thanks to its attractive cultural destinations during the day and many vibrant nightlife activities."
