The Ministry of Education and Training said that all four students of the Vietnamese national team competing in the 2024 International Biology Olympiad (IBO) won medals, including three gold medals and one silver medal. With this achievement, Vietnam ranked third out of 81 participating countries and territories.
Specifically, the 3 Gold Medals went to: Dang Tuan Anh, 12th grade student, Chu Van An High School, Hanoi; Nguyen Tien Loc, 12th grade student, High School for Gifted Students of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Nguyen Si Hieu, 12th grade student, Tran Phu High School for Gifted Students, Hai Phong.

The 35th IBO in 2024 will be held in the Republic of Kazakhstan. This is the competition with the largest number of participating countries ever, with 81 countries and territories and 320 contestants.
According to the regulations of the International IBO Association, the competition awards no more than 10% of the contestants who win gold medals, 20% of the contestants who win silver medals, and 30% of the contestants who win bronze medals. The total number of medals awarded this year includes: 28 gold medals; 56 silver medals; 84 bronze medals.
Candidates will take 2 official exam days with a duration of 6-8 hours/day. Of which, 1 day will be for theory exam with 2 papers and 1 day for practice exam with 4 laboratories on molecular biology, biochemistry, animal anatomy and physiology and bioinformatics.
This year's exam requires candidates to have a good understanding of both theory and proficiency in practical skills, correctly and effectively applying knowledge and skills of biology from classical to modern in solving many diverse problems of global issues.
The achievement of 4/4 students winning medals, with 3 Gold Medals and 1 Silver Medal at the 2024 International Biology Olympiad is the best achievement of Vietnamese students since 2019. In particular, for the first time, many Vietnamese students achieved high results in practical exams which require very high standards in this exam.
This achievement continues the series of high achievements that Vietnamese student delegations have achieved at international Olympic competitions in recent years, with the quantity, quality of medals and overall exam scores of students constantly improving, approaching the world's leading countries in the same field.
