During the reign of Le Thanh Tong, the Dai Viet state developed brilliantly in all aspects from economy, politics, military to education, culture, society, not just economy or education. Especially during this period, the territory of Dai Viet was significantly expanded after many wars with surrounding countries such as Champa, Ai Lao, and Bon Man.
Regarding the military, as soon as he ascended the throne, the king issued instructions to the guards, prefectures, and towns to reorganize their ranks and teach soldiers not to forget their weapons. The king reorganized the army to be more powerful and elite, continued to implement the policy of conscripting soldiers in agriculture from previous generations, and established systems of conscription, training, and legalization for the army.
Regarding law, King Le Thanh Tong completed a massive set of laws. The idea of using law to govern the country was especially successful, making Dai Viet a powerful state, a model for later kings to follow.
Regarding administration, King Le Thanh Tong reorganized the administrative apparatus into 6 ministries including Lai, Le, Ho, Binh, Hinh, Cong with separate functions. Regarding the division of government at all levels, he abolished the old administrative organization system under Le Thai To, changing from 5 regions to 13 regions. In addition, Le Thai Tong also ordered the drawing of maps to serve administrative management and education.
In terms of economy, Le Thanh Tong advocated agriculture and promoted economic development policies. All sectors of agriculture, handicrafts, and commerce developed brilliantly, helping Dai Viet's economy to quickly recover and develop.
Regarding education, Le Thanh Tong paid special attention to developing education and training talents. He expanded and built many new schools and warehouses; regularly organized examinations to select many doctors and laureates; actively reformed education and issued new policies to avoid cheating in exams.
In terms of culture, Confucianism became dominant. The king focused on compiling history, books, and poetry.
Le Thanh Tong's domestic and diplomatic achievements helped Dai Viet become a powerful nation in the region, respected by neighboring countries. This period is often called the Hong Duc Prosperity, because it took place during the Hong Duc years.
