Ethnic policies support people to develop production
Tra Vinh has 32% Khmer people, nearly 1% Chinese and other ethnic minorities. In recent years, with the attention and direction of the Government, the support of central ministries, branches and other provinces and cities, together with the leadership and direction of the Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Committee, and the proactiveness and positivity of departments, branches and sectors in advising, the locality has organized and implemented many ethnic policies.

Thereby, mobilizing maximum resources for the goal of comprehensive development of ethnic minority areas in the area, ensuring equality, solidarity, respect, and mutual assistance among ethnic groups for development.
Specifically, regarding economic development, Tra Vinh province always pays attention to and creates favorable conditions for businesses to invest in ethnic minority areas, develop small-scale industries, handicrafts, craft villages and services to create jobs and increase income for people.
Focus on building cooperatives and cooperatives, implementing the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program in ethnic minority areas. In addition, invest in building production facilities, upgrading and expanding existing facilities, combining with new construction investment, promoting the effectiveness of large-scale projects invested by the Central Government in the area, ensuring response to climate change, synchronous operation to serve multi-cropping production, promoting the advantages of the area of hillland, hilly land and improving mixed land and mixed gardens.
Since then, over the years, many ethnic minority households in the province have converted ineffective crops and animals to raising and growing effective crops and animals with high economic value. There are a number of outstanding effective production and economic models in ethnic minority areas.
Notable are the large-scale field models in Tap Ngai commune (Tieu Can district) and Chau Dien commune (Cau Ke district); high-quality rice production areas in Nhi Truong commune and Truong Tho commune (Cau Ngang district), models of breeding cows, raising chickens for meat, developing many craft villages, cooperatives, etc.

Developing staff, preserving and promoting traditional cultural identity of ethnic minorities
Correctly identifying the role and contribution of ethnic minority cadres in implementing the political tasks of each sector and locality, all levels and sectors in Tra Vinh province have recruited civil servants and public employees who are ethnic minorities to work in agencies of the political system from the province to the grassroots level. Up to now, the whole province has 4,443 ethnic minority cadres, accounting for 20.8%. Of which, 560 cadres hold leadership and management positions, accounting for 12.60% (78 at the provincial level, 133 at the district level, and 349 at the commune level).

Based on the results of planning and training of cadres, all levels and sectors in the province have arranged, used and appointed ethnic cadres, specifically through Party congresses at all levels. It is known that in the 2020-2025 term, Tra Vinh elected an executive committee of 3,857 comrades (of which, ethnic cadres were 458 comrades, accounting for 11.87%). For the Party cells directly under the grassroots Party Committee for the 2022-2025 term, the number of executive committees is 7,408 comrades (the executive committees of ethnic minorities are 1,381 comrades, accounting for 18.64%).
With practical capacity and high sense of responsibility, the quality and efficiency of performing tasks of the ethnic cadre team are constantly improving, meeting the requirements of tasks in the new situation.
The network of schools, facilities, and teaching equipment in schools in Tra Vinh has been invested in, contributing to improving the education of ethnic minority people. Since 2019, the province has sent 27 students for training under the selection system, contributing to improving the education level of the people, supplementing the contingent of civil servants and public employees for ethnic minority areas and areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions in the province.
Regarding the work of preserving, maintaining and promoting the traditional cultural identity of ethnic minorities, the Ethnic Minorities Committee of Tra Vinh province said that it has always received attention from all sectors and levels. Specifically, Tra Vinh province continues to implement the plan to renovate the museum of ethnic minority culture. Mobilize ethnic minorities to build mass cultural movements in hamlets and quarters (currently, 112 pentatonic groups, 95 Sa Dam drum groups, and 35 Chan dance groups have been established), contributing to promoting the mass cultural movements among ethnic minorities to serve the entertainment during the holidays of ethnic minorities.
"In recent times, the Provincial Ethnic Committee has effectively and promptly implemented policies, programs, and projects for socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas. Since then, the material and spiritual life of ethnic minorities has been improved" - the preliminary report of the first 6 months of 2024 of the Tra Vinh Provincial Ethnic Committee on the implementation of the national target program for ethnic minorities and mountainous areas (program 1719) emphasized.
Talking to Dan Viet, Mr. Thach Mu Ni - Deputy Head of Tra Vinh Provincial Committee said that in the past, our country had many ethnic policies, but in the period of 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030, there is a program 1719 integrating policies, including 10 projects.
In the 10 projects, there are many sub-projects and many different contents, comprehensive in nature, covering almost all aspects of economic and social life in ethnic minority areas.
The implementation of the national target program has been determined to be long-term, widespread, both deep and widespread. To implement it well and bring high efficiency, it is necessary to do a good job of propaganda so that people understand, agree and participate, not to implement it one-sidedly from state agencies.
"Propaganda work is very important, its significance is to decide whether ethnic policies are effectively implemented or not" - Mr. Thach Mu Ni said.
In the period of 2019 - 2023, Tra Vinh province approved a list of projects to call for investment, including 148 investment projects in ethnic minority areas. The whole province attracted 63 domestic and foreign investment projects to invest in ethnic minority areas, including 56 domestic projects with a total registered capital of about 2,408 billion VND and 7 foreign projects with an investment capital of 13.2 million USD.
