"Currently, the Vietnam Football Federation and coach Mai Duc Chung are still implementing the terms stated in the contract signed by both parties. Mr. Mai Duc Chung is still the head coach of the Vietnam women's football team.

On November 4, the women's football team will return to Hanoi. After that, according to the plan, coach Mai Duc Chung will work with VFF to review the results of the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifying round as well as the next plan for women's football," said a VFF representative.

Coach Mai Duc Chung's contract with VFF ends in December 2023. The strategist born in 1951 said he will not continue to be the head coach of the Vietnamese women's team because he wants to spend time with his family.

"I decided to take a break after my contract expires at the end of 2023. I have been the coach of the Vietnamese women's team for many years, it would be better for another coach to replace me. I think it's simple, what will come will come, I can't do it forever, no matter what position. When the bamboo is old, the young bamboo must grow," said coach Mai Duc Chung.

Thus, the match between the Vietnamese women's team and Japan in the 2024 Olympic qualifiers is the last match of coach Mai Duc Chung as head coach. After this match, the Vietnamese women's team players shared very emotional stories about Mr. Mai Duc Chung.

"I remember the first day I practiced with him, that year he sent me back to the club. He also told me to try harder. From then on, I tried very hard to return to the team. Thanks to that, I have Huynh Nhu today.

During the time working with you, I learned a lot, the love and humility from a great personality, a teacher who always has a warm heart. I wish you good health and happiness with your family. For Vietnamese women's football, you are forever", striker Huynh Nhu shared.

Striker Hai Yen wrote on her personal page: "Thank you for always accompanying us on every journey, whether it's difficult or glorious. Thank you for everything."

Goalkeeper Kim Thanh wrote: "In 2019, at this place, you trusted me and gave me the opportunity to compete and achieve more success than expected. In 2023, also at this place, you said goodbye to me and Vietnamese women's football.

What you have brought to me and Vietnamese women's football are achievements that deserve to be respected.

More specifically, you brought Vietnamese women's football to the World Cup for the first time, which is truly amazing. I wish you good health, happiness with your family and in life. Thank you, great teacher, respected father."

For his part, Coach Mai Duc Chung suggested Japanese Coach Akira Ijiri to replace him, saying: "I believe Mr. Akira will understand the culture and lifestyle of Vietnam. He also has expertise.

Coach Akira is a convenient option, helping VFF avoid having to hire experts from other places, but when they return, they will not understand the culture and lifestyle of the women's team. That is the best choice for the Vietnamese women's team."
