The series of problems that cause social outrage, bad image of teachers, loss of faith in education... are mostly the fault of the principal. In schools, the principal plays an important role in building a disciplined, loving, responsible and innovative school.

In the current context, to become a "locomotive" who both does a good job of management and creates respect from teachers; to avoid creating a bad image of education in society, principals need to pay attention to the following.

Just entering the school year, the education sector has faced a series of heartbreaking incidents such as school violence; overcharging; teachers grabbing and dragging female students in class; teachers scolding students with offensive language...

Close to school and class every day

According to the instructions, directions, and requirements of superiors, based on the characteristics and situation of the school, discussions within the Party Committee, the Board of Directors, teachers, etc., the principal needs to develop an educational plan for the school year (with a vision of 3-5 years). The principal should specify the goals to be achieved with feasible measures, with legal effect, synchronous implementation, and be closely monitored and inspected; adjustments and supplements can be made when necessary.

Equally important, the principal closely follows the school and classroom every day, observing and forecasting (good things, bad things) to promptly prevent and quickly handle situations arising from teaching, learning, service (office department), and coordination (parents, local authorities where the school is located...) in an optimal way.

Teach one subject well , know many subjects

If the principal teaches well, teachers and students will be "convinced". When faced with difficult lessons or confusing topics, the principal can teach by example. If teachers complain that integrated teaching is too difficult, can the principal teach by example? A principal who is "passionate" about his/her subject will inspire all members of the school - the premise for "teaching well and learning well".

Being good at the subject you were trained in at the teacher training college, the principal needs to read to know other subjects. By doing so, the principal will clearly understand the difficulties in teaching, what are the bottlenecks that need to be solved.

During professional discussions, each comment from the principal on the lesson plan, each suggestion from the principal to the students' aspirations must be filled with material beyond the textbooks, carrying the pulse of life.

"Only with food can one practice religion" but...

Where is the money to build spacious and modern classrooms? Where is the money to organize fun experiential activities? Where is the money to reward teachers and students? Where is the money to spend extra income for staff at the end of the year? These concerns of the principal in the context of limited budget allocation, so taking advantage of other (legal) sources of income is also understandable.

Once, at a conference of the Department of Education and Training, I shared: "Wherever the accountant is, I sit there." As a principal, I focus on teaching and education; money matters are the accountant's job. When this employee is confused, I show them why there is this instruction, why there is such a requirement in that document, how much this expense will meet teaching and learning needs... In the school, all resources and top priorities are for organizing teaching and learning activities.

Come to school early, leave late

To make students excited to go to school every morning, first of all, the principal (except for days when he is on business trips or busy with meetings) spends more time than anyone else at school. Oversees the situation, urges departments to work, follows teachers in class, and listens to the students' "a" sounds in each lesson. It is the practical observation that will give the principal the feeling - the path to change.

Visitors to the school, when they need to see the principal, the principal is there. The principal listens attentively, resolves quickly, and good reputation spreads far and wide. Socializing education is here, not far away!

Keep the school green, clean and safe

A beautiful, modern school is what everyone wants. But "cut your coat according to your cloth", and with good mobilization, the principal should prioritize taking care of the school yard, classrooms, subject rooms, medical room, library... to be tidy, clean, and operate effectively.

The principal should share the work with the vice principal and staff so that they can complete the assigned work well together. Although trusting colleagues and subordinates, the principal still has to check, point out what needs to be done, how to do it, and create conditions for departments to devote themselves to the principal. A happy school - first of all, is a green, clean, safe school - and the principal is the chief engineer!

Live positively, be kind, share, cooperate...

The principal takes care of teachers and students, does not let teachers and students be sad or feel inferior when they encounter risks, or have thoughts or actions that are not suitable for teachers' ethics or students' age. If the principal behaves harmoniously, solves problems, builds a positive, kind, sharing, and cooperative school community - the school will change and the team will become stronger every day.

If every decision is based on fairness, responsibility and love, then the teacher will support it. I remember, there was a teacher I made a disciplinary decision twice, now meeting him again, he said "thank you teacher for that day".

Spend 2 hours a day reading

The principal must consider studying documents, instructions, reading books and newspapers every day as a daily task to have a basis for building an educational plan. The principal spreads the habit of reading to teachers and students in the school. A good school is a school that loves reading.

I still remember when I read the story of a student bowing to greet the security guard, I used this text to suggest a group of literature teachers to create a test. The student wrote well, the press praised him, but more importantly, the students at my school followed suit, not only bowing to the security guard, but also helping the security guard push the garbage cart after cleaning the school. This could be the sweet fruit of the principal's diligence in reading.

Do not calculate "losses" or "gains" for personal benefit

The effectiveness of a principal's management is reflected in the maturity of teachers, the progress of students, the trust of parents, and the recognition of superiors.

Put the interests of the brothers first, don't care about the percentage of "black commissions", don't get involved in "selling - buying" in schools... Doing so will make the principal "light" and worry about "learning manners first, learning knowledge later". However, the principal should not be "weak", afraid of "collisions", or turn his back on socialization.

Opportunities come with challenges, and how can one avoid difficulties when things go well? The principal must be responsible, keep the fire of aspiration burning, and train his or her mind for the job - worthy of being the soul of the school and the leader. Only then can we hope to push back the ongoing problems in education.
