Maintain stable operations of 9 craft villages
Tao Village (Tam Thuan Commune) has nearly 630 households with about 2,500 people. Of which, about 24.4% of the total households are engaged in tailoring with more than 800 workers. Tailoring has been developed by villagers since the 2000s, with main products being polo shirts, sun protection shirts, windbreakers, felt, sportswear, school uniforms, etc.
According to Chairman of Tam Thuan Commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Dinh, since the sewing profession was established, the material and spiritual life of the people of Tao village has been increasingly improved. The average income of workers in the profession reaches 120 million VND/year.
“In April 2024, Tao Village was honored to receive a certificate of recognition from the Hanoi People's Committee as a Craft Village. This is an honor but also an opportunity for Tao Village to continue to maintain and develop the traditional tailoring profession…” - Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh added.
With Tao village being recognized as a Hanoi Craft Village, up to now, the whole Phuc Tho district has 9 craft villages recognized by the Hanoi People's Committee. The craft villages are operating stably, currently attracting 1,700 production and business establishments and this number is increasing day by day.
According to the assessment of the Economic Department of Phuc Tho district, the development of craft villages in recent years has contributed to increasing the district's budget revenue; especially creating jobs for thousands of local workers as well as neighboring communes and districts.
In addition to the recognized craft villages, in recent years, Phuc Tho district has also promoted the development of new craft villages. These include the craft village producing gypsum seedlings in Thanh Da commune; the craft village producing soy sauce in Thuong Coc commune, etc.
Develop 3 - 5 new craft villages
However, after many ups and downs, up to now, there are 3 craft villages in Phuc Tho district that are fading away. These are two agricultural processing villages Hieu Hiep and Ha Hiep (Lien Hiep commune), and carpet weaving village Dong hamlet (Phung Thuong commune). The activities of some craft villages are also facing many difficulties in the context of the new market.
Head of the Economic Department of Phuc Tho district Can Van Hong said that to promote the development of craft villages, Phuc Tho district has developed a project to develop industry, handicrafts, trade - services and craft villages in the district for the period 2023 - 2025, with a vision to 2030.
To concretize the above project, from 2023 to present, Phuc Tho district has focused on completing the criteria of existing craft villages; planning and managing, investing in the construction of craft villages in accordance with the planning; ensuring synchronous, modern infrastructure and suitable for rural landscape architecture.
According to Vice Chairman of Phuc Tho District People's Committee Le Van Thu, the locality always identifies craft villages as the driving force for rural economic development and improving people's lives. Therefore, it always tries to create the best operating conditions for establishments in craft villages.
In the coming time, the district will focus on developing the sewing village of Thuong Hiep hamlet (Tam Hiep commune) combined with tourism according to Resolution No. 12-NQ/HU of the Phuc Tho District Party Committee. Developing a number of new craft villages such as: mechanics in Lien Hiep commune; production of vermicelli, cakes, and tofu in Sen Chieu commune; processing wood and wood products in the communes: Hat Mon, Thanh Da...
In addition, the district will focus on solutions to multiply small-scale handicrafts for purely agricultural villages. Implement trade promotion programs, call for investment, and attract businesses to participate in developing craft villages. In particular, priority will be given to developing production in craft villages that apply high technology and are environmentally friendly.
To support the consumption of products for craft villages, in the period of 2023 - 2025, with a vision to 2030, Phuc Tho district strives to have 3 - 5 craft villages invested in centers to introduce and sell craft village products. At the same time, continue to promote branding for craft village products.
The 9 craft villages of Phuc Tho district recognized by the Hanoi People's Committee include: Thuong Hiep sewing village (Tam Hiep commune); two agricultural product processing villages of Hieu Hiep and Ha Hiep (Lien Hiep commune); Linh Chieu agricultural product processing village (Sen Chieu commune); Dong carpet weaving village (Phung Thuong commune); Phu An carpentry village (Thanh Da commune); Tich Giang flower and ornamental plant village; Trieu Xuyen carpentry village (Long Xuyen commune), and Tao village tailoring village (Tam Thuan commune).
