USAID always prioritizes relations with Vietnam

(CPV) - At a working session with Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Director General of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Samantha Power said that USAID always prioritizes relations with Vietnam and affirmed that USAID will continue to make efforts to implement the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and agreements between the two countries' senior leaders.

On the afternoon of March 25, in Washington DC, within the framework of his official visit to the United States and co-chairing the first Vietnam - US Foreign Ministers' Dialogue, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son had a working session with Director General of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Samantha Power at USAID headquarters.

Ms. Samantha Power welcomed Minister Bui Thanh Son to the United States and co-chaired the first Vietnam-US Foreign Ministers' Dialogue. Pleased to welcome Minister Bui Thanh Son to work at USAID headquarters, Ms. Samantha Power expressed her excitement at the achievements that both sides have made in implementing the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Ms. Power said that USAID always prioritizes relations with Vietnam and affirmed that USAID will continue to make efforts to implement the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the agreements of the two countries' senior leaders.

Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his pleasure to meet Director General Samantha Power again after her visit to Vietnam in March 2023. Looking back at USAID's relationship with Vietnam in the fields of overcoming the consequences of war, supporting people with disabilities, education - training, health care, etc., the Minister highly appreciated USAID's support for Vietnam and believed that Vietnam would continue to be an effective partner of USAID.

Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that USAID continue to allocate resources to implement projects to clean up Bien Hoa airport, search for missing Vietnamese soldiers, improve DNA identification capacity, support people with disabilities and war victims, etc., while also researching new cooperation projects such as training high-quality human resources, responding to climate change, energy transition, expanding Fulbright University to become a regional training center, etc.

Ms. Samantha Power shared about the activities of USAID projects in Vietnam, saying that USAID will continue to focus on cooperation to address the consequences of war, including dioxin remediation at Bien Hoa airport, improving DNA identification capacity for Vietnamese scientists to search for and identify the remains of Vietnamese soldiers who died in the war, improving health and social services to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities, supporting Vietnam to minimize the impact of climate change, sustainable development, human resource development, health infrastructure development, and disease response....

The two sides agreed to continue to closely coordinate in approving and effectively implementing USAID projects in Vietnam, contributing to promoting the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to continue to develop strongly, in depth and substantially in all fields./.
