Russia warns of risk of global conflict . Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has warned of a global conflict, after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for former Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff of the Russian army Valery Gerasimov.
" Russia, like other major countries in the world such as the United States, China and India, is not a party to the ICC. It makes no sense to impose an international treaty to which Moscow is not a party. Besides, not recognizing immunity and issuing an illegal arrest decision can be considered a declaration of war. This move can have very serious consequences, even leading to a global conflict ," Medvedev said.
Meanwhile, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Russia does not recognize the ICC's arrest warrant and considers it a Western tactic to undermine Russia's reputation.
" We do not recognize the jurisdiction of this court. We do not see any reason to cooperate ," Mr. Peskov stressed.
