Russia-Ukraine war today October 28, 2024: Ukraine makes a "hot offer" to negotiate peace with Russia when it is ready to accept the 2022 landmark territory.
Chief of Staff of the President of Ukraine Andriy Ermak has just announced that Ukraine will be ready to return to the actual border from the beginning of 2022. This is what Kiev has put forward to be ready to negotiate with Russia.
However, Mr. Andriy Ermak emphasized that Kiev is not ready to make territorial concessions.

Ukraine "backs down"
Head of the Ukrainian Presidential Administration Andriy Ermak, in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, confirmed that President Volodymir Zelensky never talked about a territorial compromise, but noted the need to accept the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine. At the same time, he admitted his readiness to negotiate based on the territory that existed before Russia began its Special Military Operation.
“ To start negotiations, it is necessary to return to the situation before Russia opened fire at 4 a.m. two years ago. Then we will talk about how to return sovereignty to the 1991 borders ,” Andriy Ermak said.
Mr. Ermak added that Crimea and Donbass remain Ukrainian for Kiev and this issue is “not up for discussion.” The head of the Ukrainian President’s Office added that he does not want to freeze the military conflict but wants to end it.
Russian State Duma calls Ukraine's conditions unacceptable
The option of starting negotiations with Ukraine to return to the borders in 2022 is not suitable for Russia, said Yuri Shvytkin, deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma Defense Committee. Accordingly, the prospect of starting peace negotiations under such conditions is not suitable, he said.
“ The conditions set by the Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine are clearly unacceptable to us. At present, we have achieved major victories, taken control of many settlements and continue to actively advance on all fronts. In my opinion, this statement is an attempt to withdraw the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) from the siege positions. This should not be allowed under any circumstances ,” said Yuri Shvytkin.
“We have repeatedly stressed that peace negotiations will take place only on our terms, based on the realities of the day. You just need to follow these principles. Various proposals of this kind can entail a period of ceasefire. This will lead to the enemy's reorganization and regrouping of troops. This cannot be allowed under any circumstances,” the deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma Defense Committee stressed.
Former British Prime Minister calls on Ukraine to accept 2022 borders
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has outlined his personal views on how the conflict in Ukraine could end if Republican candidate Donald Trump becomes the new US President.
Specifically, it is Mr. Trump who can end the conflict on terms that are favorable to Kiev and the West. One of the conditions for negotiations is that Ukraine maintain the state of the border as of February 23, 2022. This effectively means that Kiev cannot return to the 1991 border.
“ To avoid future conflict and instability, the rest of Ukraine will need to be recognised as a free country, capable of choosing its own destiny within the EU and NATO ,” Boris Johnson said.
To achieve this, Mr. Johnson proposed that allied countries increase military support for Ukraine and lift restrictions on attacking deep into Russian territory to force Moscow to retreat. After this scenario becomes a reality, the former British Prime Minister proposed signing an agreement with Russia: Providing special protections for Russian speakers in Ukraine, as well as a global restoration of relations between Washington and Moscow. This is something that only Mr. Trump can do as President of the United States.
Selidovo changes hands
In Kursk, the latest battlefield images show that the Russian army has completely controlled the area around the village of Novy Put, the Military Summary channel reported.
The Russian side continues to intensify its attacks south of Donetsk. Russian units quickly advanced from Ugledar, breaking through the AFU defenses and taking control of additional positions at Shakhtarske, Novoukrainka and most of Bohoiavlenka.
In the direction of Kurakhovo, the Russian army also succeeded in taking control of the first positions in the city center.
Notably, multiple sources at the front have confirmed the fall of the town of Selidovo. The AFU are said to have abandoned most of their positions in the settlement and begun to flee the area. The Ukrainian defenses appear to have collapsed under Russian pressure. The dire logistical situation will also have contributed to this.
At the same time, Russian ground attacks are also taking place on the northern flank in the direction of Pokrovsk.
Readovka channel confirmed that the Russian victory flag is flying in the cities of Selidove and Gornyak in the Donetsk region.
Despite the fact that both previously fortified areas of the AFU were purposefully prepared for long-term defense, the simultaneous fall of two cities in one day is a clear sign of the decline in the will and fighting power of Ukrainian soldiers.
In the direction of Pokrovsk, the Russians advanced in such a way that the enemy did not have time to retreat to "more advantageous positions". As Russian units quickly approached Vishnevoye, the AFU lost control of all logistical routes to Selidovo.
Soldiers of the Russian 110th Motorized Rifle Brigade surprised the enemy by crossing the Volchya River and ambushing and driving AFU soldiers out of the village of Zoryanoye. This was the highlight that caused the important town of Gornyak to fall a few days later.
