Reuters reported on July 31 that Ukraine announced it would begin negotiations with the United States on security guarantees before Kiev could join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
“We will start negotiations with the United States this week. Security guarantees for Ukraine will include specific and long-term obligations. These will be clearly drawn up formats and mechanisms of support. Security guarantees will be in effect until Ukraine is granted NATO membership,” said Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian presidential administration.
