Quang Nam Coach Van Sy Son removed striker Nguyen Dinh Bac from Quang Nam's playing list in V-League 2023-2024, demoting him to the youth team for violating internal discipline.
"I did not include Dinh Bac in the list of Quang Nam players for the away match against HAGL this weekend. Before that, I also did not let him play in the match against Binh Duong. Dinh Bac is being disciplined and has to go down to practice with the youth team," coach Van Sy Son confirmed to VnExpress on the morning of February 21.
Coach Van Sy Son said the team was ordered to gather from the second day of the Lunar New Year to prepare for the match against Binh Duong in round 9 of the V-League five days later. However, Dinh Bac only showed up two days later for the meeting with the reason of "missing the flight". Mr. Son said this was not the first time Dinh Bac had violated discipline after returning from the 2023 Asian Cup. The striker born in 2004 is said to have been late for practice many times with the reason of "oversleeping".

"I know that without Dinh Bac, Quang Nam will lose an attacking option. But football needs discipline. And I did it for Dinh Bac himself," coach Van Sy Son added. "With young players, if they are not trained strictly, they cannot succeed in the future. I will consider Dinh Bac's attitude before deciding when to let him return to play."
Dinh Bac is from Nghe An, trained at the youth team of his hometown team but did not meet the requirements so he was eliminated. He joined Quang Nam and gradually affirmed his position. In the 2023 First Division, he scored eight goals and assisted seven goals to help Quang Nam win the championship and gain the right to be promoted to V-League.
Dinh Bac was selected by coach Philippe Troussier for the 2023 Asian Cup, and is the seventh youngest player in the tournament. In the opening match against Japan, he scored the equalizer for Vietnam with a header from a corner kick by Do Hung Dung. The Quang Nam FC striker then made Yukinari Sugawara foul, leading to a penalty that led to a goal that raised the score to 2-1 for Vietnam. These are considered key matches, which could decide Vietnam's ability to win one of the two tickets to the next round. After that, the midfielder from Nghe An could be a key player in the U23 Asian Cup, taking place from April 15 to May 3 in Qatar.
