Pretending to be a criminal police officer to extort property from passersby

On November 28, the Investigation Police Agency of District 12 Police (HCMC) prosecuted Tran Van Trieu (17 years old, residing in Hau Giang) to investigate the act of "extortion of property".

According to the investigation, late on November 15, Mr. K. (temporarily residing in District 12) went to the Trung My Tay Ward Police Station to report that a person pretending to be a criminal police officer had extorted his property.

Specifically, that same evening, Mr. K. was riding his motorbike on TMT7A Street (Trung My Tay Ward, District 12) when he was stopped by a man claiming to be a criminal police officer.

This person said that Mr. K. gathered to race illegally, then drove Mr. K. around the streets of District 12. While traveling on the streets, this person pulled over to a deserted area to extort a phone and 500,000 VND from Mr. K.

Determining the seriousness of the case, the Criminal Police Team of District 12 Police coordinated with Trung My Tay Ward Police to investigate and pursue. Using many professional measures, the police identified and arrested Tran Van Trieu.

Initially, at the investigation agency, Tran Van Trieu admitted to impersonating a criminal police officer and extorting property from Mr. K. for money to spend.

The case of a man posing as a criminal police officer to extort property from passersby is being further investigated by the police.
