Hello!
The cause of varicose veins in the lower extremities is currently not clearly identified, however, there are some risk factors that can cause damage to the one-way valve function of the peripheral venous system. When these valves are weakened, their ability to prevent blood from flowing back down will be reduced, leading to blood stasis in the legs.
In addition, some other factors that can cause varicose veins in the lower extremities include:
- Working posture: When working, having to stand or sit in one place for a long time, little movement, or having to carry heavy loads.
- Women are affected 3 - 4 times more than men.
- Women who have been pregnant and have had multiple pregnancies are twice as likely to develop the disease as women who have not been pregnant.
- Obese people, diet low in fiber and vitamins.
- Degenerative process due to aging.
- History of phlebitis or thrombosis in the veins of the lower extremities.
Early stage of lower limb varicose veins symptoms are mild and transient, disappearing during rest so patients pay little attention and easily ignore them.
