The recruitment information printed on a piece of newspaper wrapped around a sticky rice package made Master Tran Minh Hai curious. He felt sympathy for street children and decided to work in the field of child care, education and protection.
Empathy Issues related to children's right to development are one of the main concerns of international law, as well as Vietnamese law. Currently in our country, in addition to competent authorities, many individuals and organizations also have positive contributions to the work of caring for, educating and protecting children. One of them is Master of Social Work Tran Minh Hai. With the desire to protect children's rights in general and children's right to development in particular, over the past 30 years, Master Hai has traveled all over the country, 27 countries around the world to learn, explore and do good things for children. Mr. Minh Hai came to the work of supporting and protecting children right after graduating from high school. That year, after failing the university entrance exam, he stayed in Ho Chi Minh City to both apply for a job and study for the exam.

MSc. Nguyen Minh Hai started working in child care, education and protection right after graduating from high school.
During this period, he often wandered the streets to learn and explore people's lives. During such times, he met, observed and found himself sympathizing with street children. One time, while opening a piece of old newspaper wrapped around a sticky rice package to eat, Mr. Hai was attracted by the words. It was a recruitment notice for street educators in a project of a Swiss non-governmental organization. Curious and finding himself suitable for the job, he wrote a letter to apply. After many rounds of interviews and challenges, he was signed a work contract by the organization. Being accepted, the young man spent almost all his time on the streets. From 1993 to 1997, Mr. Hai was the leader of a group of 4 social workers at the Cau Muoi Club (now the Tre Xanh shelter, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) and also studied Women's Studies, the predecessor of Social Work in Vietnam at the Ho Chi Minh City Open University. During this time, he studied and approached and worked with street children at Cau Muoi market, Xom Chieu market, Ben Thanh market, etc. Mr. Hai met so many street children and gangsters that the community nicknamed him Hai "Cau Muoi". Having a talent for communication and always approaching street children with a warm heart, he soon gained the trust of street children. He shared: "When approaching street children, I always look at and look for the positive aspects and strengths of each child. I look at the child's human value, not the past and never label them with contempt." That approach helped Mr. Hai get closer and understand the thoughts and aspirations of street children. From there, he and his colleagues found the best way to support them. Up to now, he has had 30 years of experience in caring for, protecting and educating children.
Mr. Phung Ngoc Phong, one of the street children whose life was changed by Dr. Hai
In this way, Mr. Hai and his companions have helped thousands of street children, pulling hundreds of street children out of drugs and prison. Many of the street children who have been helped by "Mr. Hai" have become successful people, useful to society. The most famous of these is Mr. Phung Ngoc Phong. At the age of 16, Mr. Phong became known as "Phong Tho Dia" in the Cau Muoi area. Phong had juniors and together they extorted, begged, stole,... to have money to spend. After being supported by Mr. Hai, Phong was determined to change his life, learning auto repair. Currently, he is the owner of a reputable auto garage in Ho Chi Minh City. Mr. Phong also established a fund to support orphans in the city. In addition to Mr. Phung Ngoc Phong, Mr. Hai also "turned the wheel" of the life of Mr. Tran Minh Thuc, from Long An . Mr. Thuc left home and became a street child at the age of 16. After wandering for about a year, Thuc was approached by Mr. Hai and persuaded to come to Tre Xanh shelter. After a period of learning to repair motorbikes, when he learned that he still had a family, Mr. Hai took him back to reunite. Later, Mr. Thuc moved to Dong Thap province to live, build a career and become a successful businessman there. "I don't expect the children to be grateful and repay me. But on important occasions of the year, they still remember me, ask about me, congratulate me, etc. Those things make me very happy. I am even happier when I know that many of the children I have supported, when successful, have found ways to join hands and take care of children in difficult circumstances," Mr. Hai confided.Vietnamnet.vn
