The Minister of Industry and Trade requested clarification on how EVN proactively provided fuel for factories and mobilized power sources.
This request was raised by Mr. Nguyen Hong Dien when working with the specialized electricity inspection team to implement Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's directive on June 6.
Accordingly, the specialized inspection team of the Ministry of Industry and Trade will work with EVN from June 10 on electricity management and supply from January 2021 to June 2023.
Minister Dien requested that the inspector clarify the supply and proactive provision of fuel for power plants, operation of the power system, mobilization of power sources (technically), fairness and issues of power transmission as well as mobilization of renewable energy sources.
Along with establishing an inspection team, the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade requested the establishment of an inspection monitoring team.
"For any power shortage to occur, regardless of the reason, it is necessary to clearly identify the cause, find a solution, and handle it satisfactorily and promptly," Minister Dien acknowledged.
Therefore, he requested the Ministry's inspection team to work impartially and objectively based on legal regulations.
Since the beginning of June, people in Hanoi as well as northern provinces have frequently suffered power outages.
Hydropower - one of the two main sources of electricity supply for the North is decreasing in mobilization due to drought and dry reservoirs. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, some hydropower plants have had to stop generating electricity, of which by June 9, 4 plants in the North had to stop: Son La, Lai Chau, Huoi Quang, Tuyen Quang. This is the reason for the power shortage for the North of about 5,000 MW, equivalent to the scale of the entire city of Hanoi being cut off, meaning about 8 million people are affected.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade said that the North will lack 30.9-50.8 million kWh per day, and there is a risk of power shortages at most hours of the day. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that hydroelectric reservoirs will still be "thirsty" for water in the next 10 days when the water flow to the reservoirs is very low.
The average electricity consumption nationwide reached nearly 820 million kWh per day in May, an increase of more than 20% compared to April. In Hanoi alone, the average electricity consumption in May was more than 75.4 million kWh, an increase of 22.5% compared to April. By June 8, the average consumption reached more than 85.6 million kWh.
