Fun experience
Every year, when "September 20th, October 5th", Ms. Luu Thu Ha's family in Tran Hung Dao ward (Hai Duong city) takes her children to An Thanh commune (Tu Ky) to experience. Not only the children but Ms. Ha also likes to hold a net to catch earthworms. Ms. Ha said: "These experiences are very useful, helping children get closer to nature, away from computers and phones. Being active, the body is also more agile. The landscape and nature here are fresh, airy, suitable for going out and picnicking. Practical knowledge also helps children in their studies".
For the past 3 years, the district has organized a festival of organic rice and earthworms, along with a competition to cook rice trays from local specialties. An Thanh commune has also organized a competition to play with bamboo baskets and catch fish 4 times. This activity has promoted and popularized the traditional cultural beauty of An Thanh people, attracting more and more people and tourists from inside and outside the province to visit and experience. This is a unique activity that few localities can carry out.
When coming to the traditional embroidery craft village of Xuan Neo (Hung Dao commune), visitors can admire hand-embroidered products and directly hold embroidery needles. Many people are curious when looking at the pictures embroidered with thread but exactly like photos. Each needle and thread stitch blends together, making viewers fascinated. "Looking at the needles moving up and down quickly, I can see the meticulousness, meticulousness, and skill of the embroiderers. I also tried but could not do it", Ms. Nguyen Thi Van in Quang Trung ward (Hai Duong city) shared.
Dreams take shape
Tu Ky is located in the southeast of Hai Duong. This is the downstream delta of the Thai Binh River. The special geographical location adjacent to the Thai Binh estuary and the Van Uc River has made the communes of An Thanh, Quang Trung, Chi Minh, Nguyen Giap, Binh Lang, and Ha Thanh have brackish water sources. Taking advantage of that, in recent years, people have practiced sustainable agriculture with 5 exploitation levels, underground for earthworms, on the banks for raising clams, spring rice in the fields, on the banks for leafy vegetables, spices, and on top for fruit trees. Not only exploiting the advantages of the riverside area, after the Soi sluice (An Thanh commune) and the Leu Vit sluice (Quang Trung commune) were invested in construction and put into use, people have expanded the organic production area in the field area by 294 hectares, bringing the total organic exploitation area of the locality to nearly 570 hectares.
So that visitors to An Thanh commune no longer feel the distance and difficulty of traffic, in 2023, the locality completed upgrading and expanding the 2.7 km long commune road, building a 760 m long Soi bridge approach road. In 2024, the commune road from Road 391 to Cao Thang residential area (Thanh Ky village) will be expanded, upgraded and renovated over 500 m long; signs will be installed to the crab sandbank, the organic and high-tech agricultural production area of An Thanh commune. The locality has launched the planting of 2,000 m2 of pink grass along the Soi culvert area, 500 Bauhinia trees and 2 km of various flower roads to create an environmental landscape for visitors to visit and experience. "When constructing works from roads, martyrs' monuments, to sewers... we always attach importance to tourism development, so that visitors can experience and check-in anywhere in An Thanh," said Mr. Pham Van Thiep, Chairman of An Thanh Commune People's Committee.
Tu Ky is also a land rich in cultural and historical traditions. The district currently has 26 national and provincial historical relics and many traditional craft villages.
"Taking advantage of that, in recent times, Tu Ky district and other localities have invested large amounts of money, built infrastructure, trained human resources... to turn the potential of organic agriculture and tourism into reality," said Ms. Truong Thi Toan, Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Tu Ky district.
In particular, the People's Committees of communes and towns have digitized information on 26 provincial and national historical and cultural relics. These relics are posted on the portals and electronic information pages of the district and communes and towns. Visitors can access and view detailed and complete information about each relic with vivid images.
In order to create a highlight for spiritual tourists, recently, from socialized funding, Hung Dao commune has invested 15 billion VND to restore and embellish the Lac Duc communal house relic. In May 2023, the Provincial People's Committee recognized Lac Duc communal house - temple as a tourist destination. This is also the first tourist destination of the district. Thereby, it has increased the value of the relic, making it more attractive to tourists.
In 2022, the District People's Committee completed the connecting road from Highway 391 to Xuan Neo embroidery village. Hung Dao Commune People's Committee mobilized people to pave the road surface, make drainage ditches and install high-voltage lighting on the commune's main road passing through O Me and Xuan Neo villages. Mobilized all 3 villages to plant flowers along the commune's main road and plant flowers and trees along Highway 391 to create a clean and beautiful landscape.
Tu Ky District People's Committee has completed the road to Ba Boi Lang tomb (Binh Lang) from socialized funding sources, and at the same time prepared a dossier to request competent authorities to approve the adjustment of the planning to expand the Ba Boi Lang tomb relic and to renovate and embellish the items of the ceremonial gate, tomb, front hall, back hall, surrounding wall, stone embankment, etc.
Along with infrastructure investment, the district also pays attention to human resource training for tourism. Last year, the district organized 6 training conferences on tourism management, tour guiding and tourism product development for more than 600 officials, civil servants, tourism collaborators... The establishment of the "Tourism Collaborators" group attracted many teachers and people who love tourism activities to participate.
Ms. Pham Tu Phuong, a teacher at An Thanh Kindergarten, a member of the "Tourism Collaborators" group in An Thanh commune, shared: "I am regularly trained in tourism knowledge, how to welcome and introduce to tourists. I myself also actively read more books and documents related to An Thanh land. I really enjoy doing this job because it brings the beauty of my homeland closer to tourists."
Tu Ky has attracted 2 tourism service businesses, Dat Viet Travel Service and Tourism Company Limited and Kato Travel Company Limited. The companies have coordinated with the district to build an intra-district tour including the Lac Duc communal house and temple tourist site - Xuan Neo embroidery village (Hung Dao) - An Thanh commune's crab and sandworm exploitation area.
Along with that, Tu Ky district also builds typical agricultural products as gifts for tourists when they come to visit and experience these lands. Currently, ST 25 rice, fish sauce products, various types of shrimps from An Thanh commune, embroidery products from Xuan Neo craft village (Hung Dao) have been purchased by many tourists to enjoy and as gifts for relatives.
There are still difficulties
In addition to the potential and efforts of all levels and sectors to develop Tu Ky into a sustainable eco-tourism area, in the implementation process, these localities have encountered certain difficulties. Mr. Pham Van Thiep, Chairman of the People's Committee of An Thanh Commune, added that despite having many development conditions, up to now, An Thanh still does not have a service and resort area that is large enough to attract tourists. Some routes are not synchronized, and there is no high-quality human resource for tourism activities.
According to Ms. Pham Thi Hoa, an artisan of Xuan Neo lace embroidery village, currently Hung Dao commune does not have a place to display the village's products, leading to the failure to fully promote the beauty of the embroidery works. "Not only my house but also some other establishments are cramped. Visitors have to choose a place to stand and sit. There is no place to display the products, so visitors who want to see them often have to spread the paintings on the floor, which reduces the value of the paintings and is considered unprofessional," Ms. Hoa said.
In the coming time, Tu Ky will continue to invest in transport infrastructure and constructions in areas with many advantages, train and improve the quality of human resources for tourism. Develop specific products of organic areas to both increase value and create clean products for consumers... The locality also hopes to receive more attention, orientation and support from the province to make this place an organic production area associated with famous eco-tourism of Hai Duong.
