Classic Chilean children's story translated into Vietnamese

Volume one of "Papelucho" - a classic Chilean children's literature book - was released to domestic readers on December 20.

papelucho First published in 1947 and completed in 1974, the series chronicles the adventures of a young boy, Papelucho, who is full of energy, thoughtfulness, humor, and imagination. He is not afraid to get into trouble, and from there comes up with unusual solutions.

The author of the series - writer Marcela Paz - portrays a new image of childhood through a critical and profound tone about the family and society of that time. In the story, adults listen to children's thoughts and respect their opinions, something that had never been emphasized before.

Chilean Ambassador Sergio Narea Guzman said the classic children's literature is included in the country's primaryschool curriculum . At the same time, the story has been adapted into stage plays, comics and translated into many languages ​​such as Russian, Japanese, French and Swedish.

"When I was eight years old, my mother read this series to me for the first time, chapter after chapter, when I was sick. Every student can easily see themselves in the image of Papelucho," said Mr. Guzman.

At the book launch, Mr. Pham Vinh Thai, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Education Publishing House, commented that the series has humanistic and educational significance for children.

This work is part of a cultural and translation project between the Vietnam Education Publishing House and the Chilean Embassy. Volume one of the series was translated from Spanish by a team of translators from Hanoi University in more than a month, and the remaining volumes will continue to be developed and released in the near future.
