From January 14 to January 28, the system of points of sale of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Trading Cooperatives (Saigon Co.op), including Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.op Food and Finelife..., organized a festival of officially imported cherries from the Republic of Chile.
According to Tuoi Tre Online , at Co.opmart Huynh Tan Phat (District 7), fresh, plump red cherries are displayed in eye-catching locations, easily attracting the attention of consumers.
Spending nearly 15 minutes choosing cherries at Co.opmart Huynh Tan Phat, Ms. Tam Anh (living in District 7) excitedly shared: "It's rare to see fresh cherries with green stems and such cheap prices. Previously, to eat cherries, you had to be "rich", because the price was usually from 400,000 - 500,000 VND/kg".
Ms. Anh also said that last week she bought 2kg of cherries from an acquaintance selling online for more than 200,000 VND/kg, but the fruit was super small, not fresh, and not of the same quality as the ones sold in supermarkets. "I will choose about 5kg as a gift for relatives during Tet," she added.

According to a representative of Saigon Co.op, before reaching the shelves of Co.opmart, Co.opXtra... before reaching consumers, Chilean cherries have undergone strict quality checks: from legal documents, product quality documents, documents proving origin and quality control at the central distribution warehouse, at each point of sale.
To meet the diverse needs of customers, cherries are packaged in boxes of various weights, from 300g to 2.5kg and 5kg. In addition, the supermarket also displays loose cherries, allowing customers to freely choose according to their preferences.
Currently, Saigon Co.op is selling 100 tons of Chilean cherries at a preferential price of 199,000 VND/kg, 20-30% lower than the market price. This is an exclusive price applied throughout the program. On the first day of launch, statistics showed that more than 20 tons of cherries were consumed.

Present at Co.opmart Huynh Tan Phat on the first day of the Chilean cherry festival, Mr. Pablo Arancibia Salazar - Commercial Counselor of the Chilean Embassy - shared that in recent years, as living standards have improved, Vietnamese people have increasingly preferred imported, nutritious products.
"Therefore, cooperating with Saigon Co.op - Vietnam's leading consumer goods retailer - to trade in Chilean agricultural products is a great opportunity to promote the brand and increase commercial value," said the commercial counselor of the Chilean Embassy.

Mr. Vo Tran Ngoc - Sales Director of Saigon Co.op - emphasized: "Saigon Co.op is always committed to providing the best quality products, with clear origins. We regularly coordinate with trade counselors in Vietnam to act as a trade bridge, not only looking for quality imported goods but also expanding opportunities to export Vietnamese goods abroad."
"Today's Chilean cherry festival is one of the activities of this plan. After today's event, Saigon Co.op will also have a detailed working session with the Chilean side to promote the continued organization of activities to introduce products of the two countries to Chilean and Vietnamese consumers," Mr. Ngoc shared.
