Diversity of artistic activities
Standing Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture andEducation , Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Hoai Son said: Vietnam has nearly 200 creative cultural spaces such as: Hoan Kiem Lake walking street, Phung Hung mural street, Trinh Cong Son walking street, O Kia Hanoi, Hanoi Grapevine, Six Space, Vun Art;... along with a system of museums, art institutes, and cultural centers. All of these have created a diverse artistic picture.
Through this, creative cultural spaces are now playing the role of a dynamic, open and accessible educational and inspirational platform for art and culture for many segments of society: from children, adults, people with disabilities... Educational and artistically inspiring activities in these spaces include exhibitions, workshops, training and advanced training programs, networking activities,... with many different topics. From there, it has helped the public recognize the value of art, increase the need for aesthetics, enjoy and create more art and culture in life.
Phung Hung mural street space is loved by many people at home and abroad.
Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son cited that VICAS Art Studio is one of the first art spaces in the country managed by the State under the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts, with the function of researching, supporting, developing creations and experiments in contemporary art; connecting domestic and international art exchanges. This creative space organizes art exhibitions with different themes such as: Forever in love, Vortex of silence, Spring trash, Through the Northwest, Real and unreal... with social significance, helping to build brands for artists, connecting artists with the market as well as introducing Vietnamese art and culture to the audience.
Or the Phung Hung mural street creative cultural space has been warmly welcomed by people at home and abroad. It is worth mentioning that the sidewalk area of Phung Hung street used to be a used motorbike market, a waste collection area, so turning this area into a public art space is meaningful in creating a cultural environment for the people. The works are diverse in materials and creative methods, rich in interaction, suggesting to the public about a Hanoi of 36 streets, touching the memories of the community.
Creative cultural space Complex 01
In addition to the artistic activities at the State's creative cultural spaces, we can also mention the artistic activities at the creative cultural spaces of private groups, notably: Complex 01 Creative Cultural Space, which is considered a community cultural space when chosen by many artists as a place to carry out artistic activities. Here, it is possible to organize a music stage gathering hundreds of artists, or it can also "transform" into a book fair, a fair to sell handicrafts, exchange old items, launch products, machinery and tools..., or become a place to connect social and cultural activities such as talk shows on gender equality; workshops on painting, flower arrangement, making paper masks, drawing bags, making figurines, printing Dong Ho paintings... Most often, there are film screenings, music, fashion shows, exhibitions... Thereby, it has partly demonstrated its role in developing education and inspiring art to the public.
"Through artistic activities in creative cultural spaces, both adults and children can observe, feel, immerse themselves in imagination, enjoy, and create without being limited by classrooms, gallery walls, museums, and exhibition rooms... There, the public can see the values of art and also be inspired by artistic creations. These activities also contribute to preserving and spreading traditional cultural values, from music, dance, to painting and handicrafts. This helps young generations understand and appreciate the national cultural heritage" - Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Hoai Son emphasized.
The scale is still small and short-term.
Although many artistic activities have been born and carried out, there are many opinions that raising public awareness of art through creative cultural spaces is not easy because the activities are still small-scale, short-term, and unsustainable.
Organizing workshops for children at Complex 01
Explaining this, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son shared that because currently, creative cultural spaces do not have many resources, they are mainly small-scale, short-term activities, depending on project funding or contributions from artists, communities and experts, so many educational and artistically inspiring activities are not long-term, not sustainable and do not reach a large number of beneficiaries. This limitation also causes many activities to not achieve the expected quality. However, in return, in creative cultural spaces, educational and artistically inspiring activities are more diverse and rich, with newer content than many traditional institutions.
Accordingly, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son believes that in order to improve the quality of educational activities and artistic inspiration through creative cultural spaces, the State should form a clearer legal framework, more favorable for the development of creative cultural spaces. There should be support programs for spaces to have more financial resources and infrastructure to carry out these non-profit projects/activities. There should be a public-private coordination mechanism in organizing larger-scale programs led by the State to exploit the creative capacity and progressive thinking of these spaces.
In particular, human resources are always an important factor for the successful implementation of any project or activity. Therefore, it is necessary to train and improve the capacity of artists and managers in the field of reviewing works of art and art projects in creative cultural spaces.
On the artists’ side, in educating and inspiring the public with art, artists play both the role of creative artists and practitioners. Therefore, artists participating in activities need to pay more attention to the effectiveness/impact of those artistic activities on the public in order to create more responsible and better quality activities./.
