According to initial information, at around 8am, a strange, strong smell, similar to the smell of pesticides, suddenly wafted into the classrooms. This smell caused a clerical staff to vomit, and a librarian to faint, and had to be taken to the Buon Ma Thuot General Hospital for emergency treatment.
To ensure the safety of the students, the school's Board of Directors quickly brought more than 1,130 students into the classroom, closed the doors and turned on the fans to reduce the impact. Some students showed signs of fatigue, but their health was not seriously affected. The school immediately reported the incident to the People's Committee of Tan Loi Ward.
Mr. Pham Van Thai, Chairman of Tan Loi Ward People's Committee, said that the area around Residential Groups 3, 4, 5, 6, 10 and Nguyen Duc Canh Primary School also detected a foul smell. Immediately upon receiving the information, the Ward People's Committee sent a team to inspect the scene and make a record, but the origin of the strange smell has not been determined.
When checking the situation, near lunchtime, the stench was still lingering, so the ward People's Committee coordinated with the school to notify parents to pick up their children, and canceled the boarding lunch to ensure safety.
Tan Loi Ward People's Committee has sent a quick report to Buon Ma Thuot City People's Committee, City Police, Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Department of Education and Training to have a coordinated handling plan.
By nearly 12 noon, the strange smell had basically disappeared, however, to ensure absolute safety, the school decided to let students take the afternoon off that same day and will organize make-up classes on Saturday afternoon.
Currently, the authorities of Tan Loi ward and Buon Ma Thuot city are investigating, clarifying the cause and handling the incident.
