The suspended American International School is still scheduled to open, what does the Department say?

On July 2, right after the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City decided to suspend the educational activities of the American International Primary, Middle and High School (the suspension period is 12 months from July 1), some social networking sites reported that the American International School had a new investor and principal.

Currently, investors are preparing conditions for the new school year to start on August 12. The school has also been working continuously for the past 3 months, preparing for the return of teaching activities.

On July 3-4, the school will meet with all staff and parents to inform about upcoming activities.

Regarding this information, Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that up to now (afternoon of July 2), the Department has not received any documents from the American International Education Joint Stock Company and the American International School Council regarding the school having a new investor or the documents appointing a new principal.

Mr. Minh emphasized that Decision No. 2042/QD-SGDĐT dated June 28 on suspending the educational activities of the American International School for a period of 12 months has come into effect. Therefore, all activities must comply with this decision.

The above decision was signed by the Department of Education and Training on June 28 and took effect from July 1, based on the provisions of Point b, Clause 1, Article 50 of the 2019 Law on Education and Point b, Clause 1, Article 30 of Decree No. 46/2017/ND-CP of the Government.

The reason is that the American International School does not meet the conditions to be allowed to operate educational activities. Specifically, the school does not have enough financial resources as prescribed to ensure the maintenance and development of educational activities; the number of educational management staff is not enough to implement educational programs and organize educational activities.

Previously, the Department and the Interdisciplinary Working Group worked with the investor, the American International School Board, at the end of May.

The working group requested the investor and the School Board to submit a report before June 15 to the Department of Education and Training, including a report with evidence demonstrating the assurance of educational operation conditions according to the provisions of the 2019 Education Law and a general report on the payment of debts to tax authorities, social insurance, salaries for teachers, staff, and other educational services.

However, after June 15, the Department has not received a report from the unit to determine that the American International School is qualified to operate education.
