Newton School integrates environmental protection messages through educational activities

After 15 years of establishment and development, Newton Inter-level School System has grown with over 8,500 students and more than 1,000 teachers and staff at 4 campuses. In addition to excellent and impressive academic achievements, the school's educational program always aims to enhance experiences and life skills education so that "Each student is a future leader"; has the conditions to develop comprehensively; increases adaptability in the era of technology 4.0.

Newton School teachers and students attended the 2024 environmental protection communication program organized by the Economic & Urban Newspaper and the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

In designing programs and educational activities, Newton School always pays attention to developing students' emotional thinking and awareness, including environmental protection awareness.

The school has many meaningful activities to respond to and communicate about environmental protection. At the beginning of each school year, the school sets a rule that each student must bring a personal water bottle to minimize the use of disposable plastic bottles. In collective activities, this principle is also regularly reminded to create a habit for students throughout the system.

Environmental protection themed activities are regularly held in the classroom - where students can have their say by organizing a number of question and answer games about the environment.

Newton School organizes many educational activities that incorporate environmental protection messages to students.

Along with that, the school also designs lessons outside the classroom through Project activities. In the green campus, in the middle of the airy school yard, students are not only free to create, experience, and develop their thinking but are also nurtured to love nature, the clean and beautiful green environment around them and have awareness of protecting the school's landscape.

Not only that, Newton School also has workshops and communication sessions on waste classification skills, implementing them in the school as a necessary requirement in the school's regulations.

Recently, within the framework of the N-tech Science Festival 2023, there was an interesting content that attracted the participation of many students, which was fashion design from recycled materials such as snack wrappers, plastic bottles, newspapers, etc. The beautiful and unique costumes not only demonstrated the students' talents, but also carried a meaningful message about reusing materials to avoid burdening the environment.

In July 2024, Newton students represented the 2024 Global Youth Summit held in Hoa Binh. Here, Newton students gave a very convincing presentation in English about the “Ecoschool bus” project, contributing to bringing the voices and ideas of Newton students to the conference. Along with that, the school’s students also actively carried out a campaign to exchange trash and batteries for trees; planting trees in the suburbs to contribute a small part to environmental protection.

At the closing ceremony of the Communication Program and Award Ceremony of the 2024 Environmental Protection Competition in the city organized by the Economic and Urban Newspaper and the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Nguyen Van Viet Dung, a student of class 11G0 at Newton Secondary and High School, shared: “Communication on environmental protection is an important activity to raise awareness and promote environmental protection actions in the community; especially for students and the younger generation. This helps each student raise awareness and better understand the importance of environmental protection for life, health and the future”.

Media helps spread positive values, contributing to changing the habits and behaviors of people around; equipping students with knowledge and responsibility, helping them become environmentally conscious citizens; minimizing negative impacts on the environment such as pollution and climate change.

According to Viet Dung, the writing contest on environmental protection in Hanoi, co-organized by Kinh te & Do thi Newspaper, is a very meaningful contest to raise awareness of individuals and organizations to protect the environment and respond to changes. In the context that Vietnam is very determined to implement the NET ZERO policy to reduce net emissions to 0 by 2050, he believes that the contest will create a positive voice for students and the younger generation to contribute to the propaganda and spread of meaningful messages about the environment.

Newton students are ready to participate in the Communication Program and writing contest on environmental protection in the city in 2025.

Viet Dung also said that after summarizing the communication program and the writing contest on environmental protection in the city in 2024, he and his friends are nurturing ideas; at the same time, they will prepare very early to be ready for next year's contest; thereby contributing to the meaningful work, which is to protect the capital city to be green - clean - beautiful, civilized, modern and develop sustainably.
