On the afternoon of September 14, Dr. Phan Hong Hai, principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, along with the school's staff and lecturers, sent to Tuoi Tre newspaper more than 3,656 billion VND to support people affected by storms and floods in the North.
The school cannot stand aside.
Mr. Hai said that in the face of unprecedented heavy human and property damage caused by storm No. 3 (storm Yagi) in many northern provinces, on September 11, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry launched a campaign for all staff, workers, and students to join hands to support people in flood-hit areas.
"Storm No. 3 and the floods that followed the storm have caused extremely serious consequences for the people of the northern provinces. Seeing those painful images, we could not stand aside. Immediately, the school decided to launch a widespread fundraising campaign to support the entire school's faculty, staff and students.
This is the sincere wish of the school community. We know that Tuoi Tre newspaper often organizes social activities, charity programs, and timely, large-scale, and professional relief, so it is trusted by many people. Therefore, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry chose the newspaper to send all the money raised to support people in flood-hit areas," Mr. Hai shared.
With the spirit of "helping each other", immediately after launching, the school received enthusiastic response from many lecturers, staff and students.
As of 10:00 a.m. on September 14, the total amount of contributions the school received was 3,656,130,355 VND.
Previously, the school had planned to hold the opening ceremony for the 2024-2025 school year on September 27. This is an event that many students of the school look forward to at the beginning of each school year, but the school has decided to postpone it to share the pain and loss with people in the flood-hit areas.
At the same time, the school implemented many activities to share difficulties with students and families in localities affected by natural disasters and floods.
Hope people in flood-hit areas soon overcome difficulties
Right after Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry launched a campaign to support people in flood-affected areas, Ms. Vu Thi Lan, an officer of the school's service department, was one of the first to respond.
"As a native of Thai Binh, seeing the people in the flooded areas, I could not hold back my tears. As soon as the school launched the support campaign, I sent some money on the first day. My department is a service department, although the brothers and sisters work hard, they are very supportive of this activity.
Currently, more than 40 roommates have joined hands to contribute more or less, depending on each person's heart and ability. We are truly touched to contribute a small part to support the people out there," Ms. Lan shared.
Ms. Thien Phuoc, a lecturer in the Foreign Language Department, also expressed: "The school has launched a very meaningful and timely program, with profound humanistic values, which is to call for voluntary contributions from lecturers, staff and students, to bring spirit and material to people in flood-hit areas. I hope people will soon overcome difficulties, losses and pain."
The fundraising campaign "IUH towards the people of the North" has also touched the hearts of many students in the school. Thai Tran Thi Nhan, a second-year student of the Faculty of Business Administration, was moved: "Following the news on the radio, I am truly heartbroken by the great losses of people in the flood-hit areas in the past few days. As a person from the Central region, also frequently affected by natural disasters and floods, I understand very well the pain that people in the Northern provinces are going through.
Therefore, when the school called for donations, I participated with the desire to contribute my small efforts, as well as to encourage people in flood-affected areas to overcome difficulties, and hope that students will soon return to school."

"There are students who contribute wages for 1 day of extra work"
Providing more information about the decision to launch a donation campaign to support people in flood-hit areas throughout the school this time, Dr. Phan Hong Hai shared: "Instead of mobilizing through a one-day salary deduction like before, this time we launched a widespread campaign to the entire school, staff, workers and students. This method aims to create a deeper spread and also has a better educational meaning for young people.
A student told me that he sent the salary for a day of work with the hope of contributing a little to the school's common cause. Or a lecturer in the school also texted to ask if he and his family could send a joint contribution...
That is the meaning of launching this movement, when each individual can contribute in their own way. With this small gift, the school wishes to contribute to rebuilding houses for the people, helping them to soon stabilize their lives."
Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry always joins hands in community support activities.
Over the years, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry has always joined hands to participate in community support activities launched by Tuoi Tre newspaper.
