(Dan Tri) - The 10th grade exam plan will be announced this month according to the schedule in the Draft Circular promulgating the Regulations on Secondary School and High School Admissions of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).
At this time last year, some localities had announced plans for public 10th grade exams. However, this year, all provinces and cities must wait for the Ministry's Circular to implement it uniformly nationwide.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa - a math teacher in Hanoi - said: "Teachers, students, and parents are all looking forward to the 10th grade exam plan soon. However, this does not affect teaching and learning.
The school in general and each class in particular are still actively reviewing in the direction that no matter what the third subject is or whether it is a combination test, students are still guaranteed knowledge and ready to conquer this important exam."
According to the draft, high school admission (10th grade entrance exam) is organized in one of three ways: selection, entrance exam, or a combination of selection and selection.
With the admission method, the basis is the training and learning results of the years of secondary school general education program or secondary school continuing education program of the admission subject.
With the entrance exam method, the number of subjects is 3 subjects with math, literature and 1 third subject or a combination exam.
The Departments of Education and Training are allowed to choose one of two options. If they choose the third subject, it must be among the subjects that are evaluated by scores. Notably, the Ministry requires the Departments to change the third subject over the years to achieve the goal of comprehensive education in the basic education stage.
The time for localities to announce the third subject is before March 31 every year.
If the Departments choose a composite test, the subjects selected must be from the subjects that are graded. The composite test is not required to change from year to year.
Regarding the exam duration of each subject, the draft stipulates 120 minutes for literature, 90 minutes or 120 minutes for math, 60 minutes or 90 minutes for the third subject, and 90 minutes or 120 minutes for the combined exam.
The exam content is within the secondary school general education program, mainly grade 9 program.
As of October 7, the Ministry of Education and Training reported that 60/63 Departments of Education and Training agreed with the plan of 3 subjects for entrance exams to grade 10 high school and said that this is suitable for reality and reduces pressure.
However, the regulation that the third subject must change every year is controversial.
Son La Department of Education and Training proposed that provinces and cities should decide on the third subject based on the actual conditions of each locality.
In addition, the regulation that exam scores must be announced at the same time as standard scores is also a content that many provinces and cities consider inappropriate.
The 2024-2025 school year is the year that completes the implementation cycle of the 2018 Education Program from grades 1 to 12. Accordingly, this school year, the entrance exam for grade 10 high school and the high school graduation exam will follow the 2018 General Education Program.
Before the Ministry of Education and Training announced the draft Regulations on Secondary School and High School Admissions, Quang Nam province announced a plan for the 10th grade entrance exam with many major changes. Accordingly, the province will use a combined method of entrance exam and selection. Candidates will take 3 exams in math, literature, foreign language and consider their secondary school report card scores.
However, Quang Nam is currently waiting for the Ministry's official Circular to make changes and adjustments to the approved plan accordingly.
In the 2024 grade 10 entrance exam, 55/63 provinces and cities nationwide will organize the grade 10 entrance exam.
Some provinces choose the option of taking 2 compulsory subjects of math and literature and randomly selecting the third subject such as Long An , An Giang , Hai Duong.
This is also the option proposed by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) in the draft Circular promulgating regulations on junior high school and high school admissions.
However, since 2021, the third subject chosen by Long An, An Giang and Hai Duong is English.
Besides, some provinces that used to organize exams in 4-5 subjects also chose to reduce the load to 3 subjects including: math, literature, foreign language such as Vinh Phuc, Ninh Binh.
Over the past 3 years, Hanoi has eliminated the 4th exam subject . Quang Binh , Ha Giang , Kien Giang, and Vinh Long only have 2 subjects: math and literature.
The remaining provinces test three fixed subjects including math, literature, and foreign language. Of these, the most popular foreign language is English.
Notably, of the 55 provinces and cities that organize entrance exams, 11 provinces and cities combine entrance exams with considering academic records.
8 provinces and cities only consider transcripts for grade 10 admission, including: Quang Nam, Ca Mau, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Gia Lai and Lam Dong.
