The Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly held a conference on entrepreneurship and employment for the elderly in 30 northern provinces.

The Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly attended the conference with comrade Nguyen Thanh Binh - former member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, Vice Chairman of the National Committee on the Elderly and comrades in the Standing Committee, members of the Standing Committee, members of the Executive Committee of the Association.

The conference was held in both in-person and online formats. In Vinh City, there were 300 delegates representing leaders of the Association of the Elderly and outstanding elderly people from 10 provinces and cities and 2,000 delegates attending online from 20 provinces and cities.

AFFIRMING THE POSITION AND ROLE OF THE ELDERLY

Vietnam is a country with a rapidly aging population. According to the statistical database of the Ministry of Public Security, the country currently has nearly 17 million elderly people, of whom over 7 million are still working, producing and doing business; nearly 750,000 people participate in the work of the Party, government, Fatherland Front and grassroots organizations; over 300,000 people participate in reconciliation and security and order teams in villages and hamlets.

In 2023, the country will have more than 455,000 elderly people who are good at economics; more than 321,000 elderly people who are owners of farms, businesses, production and business establishments... contributing more than 100,000 billion VND to the budget; contributing more than 10,000 billion VND to social, humanitarian and charity funds.

Nghe An province alone has 566,000 elderly people, ranking 4th in the country, of which more than 95% of the elderly are members, higher than the national average. The whole province has nearly 185,000 elderly members participating in labor, production and business.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly Nguyen Thanh Binh oriented a number of key contents to build a comprehensively strong Association, enhance member development, and improve the quality of Association activities at all levels.

In his welcoming speech, on behalf of the leaders of Nghe An province, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Thai Thanh Quy emphasized the important position and role of the elderly in the family and society; expressed admiration for the contributions of the elderly today to the cause of building the homeland, country, community; building the Party and building the government.

The Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee emphasized: The conference once again showed the spirit of innovation, sensitivity, and adherence to practical requirements of the Central Association of the Elderly in the new period when mentioning one of the extremely topical and important issues in the current context: starting a business and employment for the elderly in the face of the aging population trend of our country; propagating, inspecting, and supervising the implementation of legal policies for the elderly. Through this, Nghe An province also became more aware of its responsibility for the issues raised at the conference today.

The head of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee also informed the conference about some main features of natural and social characteristics; economic development situation of the province in the past year; development orientation in the coming time. Thereby affirming the positive contribution of the elderly in the province to the common achievements.

On behalf of the provincial leaders, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Thanh Quy sincerely thanked the good feelings, sharing and companionship that the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly and localities have given to Nghe An and the Provincial Association of the Elderly in the past time.

The Provincial Party Secretary hopes that the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly will continue to receive attention, coordination and support in the coming time, helping the province to have better conditions to protect, care for and promote the elderly, contributing positively to the goal of developing the province quickly and sustainably, imbued with the cultural identity of Vietnam and Nghe An in the spirit of Resolution No. 39 of the Politburo.

ENCOURAGE ELDERLY PEOPLE TO START BUSINESSES AND CREATE JOBS

At the conference, delegates were informed about policies and solutions to encourage, support and promote the role of the elderly in starting businesses and creating jobs under the direction of the Government, when 2/3 of the nearly 17 million elderly people in our country currently do not have pensions, do not receive benefits and very few have savings.

At the same time, discuss the current situation, solutions to build and replicate the model of elderly care facilities in localities; solutions for the elderly to actively participate in the process of digital transformation, green transformation, sustainable agriculture and circular economy.

The Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly has trained and guided a number of contents on establishing provincial and district-level Associations of the Elderly according to Conclusion No. 58-KL/TW dated June 23, 2023 of the Secretariat on the organization and operation of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly and inspection and supervision work within the Association system.

Representatives of the Elderly Associations of localities discussed many issues surrounding the more extensive and effective implementation of patriotic emulation movements of the elderly.

At the same time, the opinions will be studied and accepted by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly to continue to concretize the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws and the Resolution of the 6th Congress of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly to successfully implement the set goals and tasks.
