With the motto "prevention is better than cure", "epidemic prevention is better than epidemic control", Cam Thuy District Medical Center always focuses on improving preventive medicine (YTDP), ensuring epidemic prevention and control activities, and protecting people's health.
Preventive medicine work is identified as a key task to improve the quality of health care for the people. Therefore, Cam Thuy District Medical Center always closely follows the guidance and direction of the Department of Health on this activity. Every year, the center always proactively develops plans and implements disease prevention and control (PCD) in the new situation. Along with the general plan, the center has developed a PCD plan for each season, each type of disease and monitors, detects infectious diseases early, localizes, and handles them promptly. At the same time, instructs units and localities to strengthen monitoring and supervision of old outbreaks or places at risk of forming outbreaks to have measures to handle, not to let them break out into epidemics. When new cases or suspected cases are detected, samples will be quickly taken for testing, epidemiological investigation; coordinate with communes and towns to proactively spray PCD chemicals in households, not to let the epidemic arise and spread widely in the community.
To ensure that the PCD work is fast, timely and accurate, the District Health Center and localities regularly strengthen and improve the Steering Committee and mobile PCD teams to be ready to investigate, verify, assess, handle outbreaks and control outbreaks when necessary. The Center also always ensures adequate supplies of drugs, infusions, chemicals and supplies for PCD work. Maintain the information system, report on infectious diseases and epidemics; organize monitoring and follow the fluctuations of disease-transmitting virus vectors in high-risk localities to have timely PCD plans. Accordingly, epidemics such as influenza A, influenza B, hand, foot and mouth disease, COVID-19... are all monitored, counted and handled according to regulations. Since the beginning of the year, Cam Thuy district has admitted and treated 1,086 cases of seasonal flu, 188 cases of diarrhea, 6 cases of chickenpox, 186 cases tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.
The District Health Center also focuses on training to improve skills and professional expertise in PCD for staff at the center, health workers in communes and villages. Strengthen coordination and support for commune health stations, schools and communities in implementing environmental sanitation and food hygiene and safety. Coordinate with medical examination and treatment facilities to promptly detect and treat cases of epidemics.
Along with professional measures, propaganda work also plays an important role in improving the effectiveness of preventive medicine work. Therefore, the center regularly coordinates with local authorities, associations, and schools to promote propaganda and mobilize cadres, civil servants, public employees, workers, and people to effectively implement the policies and guidelines of the Party and the State on disease prevention and control; on how to recognize epidemics, the role of vaccines, and the benefits of getting the right and sufficient doses of vaccination; and promote the spirit of solidarity in disease prevention and control. Medical staff also mobilize people to regularly clean the environment around their homes, clear sewers, water tanks, collect tools, waste, and clear bushes around their homes. In addition, they propagate and mobilize people to fully vaccinate children and adults, and ensure nutrition for children. Thanks to that, people's awareness of preserving the living environment in their families and communities has been increasingly enhanced, and littering has been limited. The rate of households with hygienic toilets reached 88.1%; the rate of people using hygienic water reached 97.8%.
Not only doing well in disease prevention, the District Health Center also does well in managing and preventing non-communicable diseases, through preventing risk factors. The Center has directed communes to maintain management and treatment of non-communicable diseases. Currently, the Center and health stations are managing 167 patients with bronchial asthma; 97 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; 216 patients with cancer; 6,010 patients with cardiovascular and blood pressure diseases; 1,697 patients with diabetes, 411 patients with mental illness. Along with that, it is necessary to promote propaganda and raise public awareness of mental illness. Early detection, organization of management, and treatment for many cases of reintegration into the community.
