China and Japan agree to work to make the East China Sea a sea of ​​peace

On October 25, China and Japan held the 17th round of high-level consultations on maritime issues in Tokyo.

Chinese and Japanese foreign ministry officials co-chaired the consultations, with representatives from relevant ministries and agencies present, China's Xinhua news agency reported.

This round of consultations includes a plenary session and three working group meetings on maritime defense, maritime law enforcement and security, and maritime economy.

The Chinese representative detailed China's stance on issues related to the East China Sea, the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait, among others, and called on Japan to take practical actions to promote the improvement and development of bilateral relations.

Japan and China agreed to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries; continue to maintain close communication on maritime issues; properly manage and control differences; strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation; and actively make efforts to build the East China Sea into a sea of ​​peace, cooperation, and friendship.

In addition, the two sides also agreed to hold the 18th round of consultations of the China-Japan High-Level Consultation Mechanism on Maritime Affairs in China in 2025.
