On the evening of March 1, an official of Vinh Thinh commune, Hoa Binh district ( Bac Lieu ) said that a rare accident had just occurred in the area when a wind turbine that was operating suddenly had 3 broken blades, fell to the ground, and was completely damaged.
Fan blade broken, completely damaged
Specifically, at more than 5 p.m. the same day, at wind turbine No. 8, belonging to the Hoa Binh 5 Wind Power Plant project (Vinh Moi Hamlet, Vinh Thinh Commune, Hoa Binh District), 3 blades suddenly broke and fell to the ground. The blades lay across the road, collapsing part of a house where fish feed was stored. Fortunately, the accident did not cause any human casualties.
According to witnesses at the scene, the wind turbines were operating when the incident occurred.
The fan blades were broken, only the shaft remained.
That same evening, representatives of local authorities and project investors mobilized forces to urgently fix the problem, count the damage, and verify and clarify the cause.
The accident caused no casualties.
Hoa Binh 5 Wind Power Plant (Phase 1) has a capacity of 80 MW, with a total investment of more than 3,700 billion VND. The project is built on an area of 27 hectares, with 26 wind turbines, and was inaugurated and put into operation on April 29, 2022. This is the largest onshore wind power plant in the Mekong Delta to date.
