The demand for orchids is increasing, many farmers have boldly invested towards the goal of developing the family economy.
Mr. Ngo Thanh Tung, residing in Group 3, Ba Phai Hamlet, Long Nguyen Commune, Bau Bang District, Binh Duong Province, after 8 years of building, has succeeded with the economic model of growing orchids.
Customers visit the orchid garden of Mr. Tung's family, a farmer in group 3, Ba Phai hamlet, Long Nguyen commune, Bau Bang district (Binh Duong province).
Having the opportunity to visit Mr. Tung's orchid garden and experience taking care of the plants with the workers, we were really fascinated by the colors of the dendro orchids.
On an area of about 5,000m2 with about 100,000 orchid pots of different sizes, the garden owner arranges them reasonably and scientifically to create impressive aesthetics, the orchids are always green and healthy.
Going deeper into the garden, an additional 5,000m2 of land has been built with a greenhouse to serve the expansion of the orchid garden in the near future.
Few people know that Mr. Tung was born and works as a potter in Thuan An City. The opportunity for Mr. Tung to come to the orchid growing model started when he attended a vocational class on orchid growing.
After the course, Mr. Tung boldly tried planting on his family's land in Thuan An City. However, the land area was too small to develop the model, so Mr. Tung and his wife boldly borrowed more capital to go to Long Nguyen commune to buy land to serve their business idea.
The initial investment cost to build an orchid garden was billions of dong, but with passion, daring to think, daring to do, and eagerness to learn, Mr. Tung and his wife have a large-scale orchid garden and stable customers like today.
According to Mr. Tung, unlike orchid hobby, orchid business is not an easy path because it requires large investment capital, as well as knowing customer segmentation, care techniques...
His garden mainly grows denro orchids because they are easy to grow and have a strong vitality. He imports flower varieties both domestically and internationally, mainly from Thailand.
On average, Mr. Tung sells about 1,500-2,000 orchid pots per month, each pot earning from 6,000-30,000 VND at wholesale prices. In the early days of construction, Mr. Tung encountered many difficulties in finding a market, and in the first 2 years, he only sold a small amount and broke even.
Up to now, the orchid business is not only profitable but his family also creates jobs for 5 local workers.
Coincidentally, as soon as we stepped into Mr. Tung's orchid garden, we heard the bustling sales pitch of a flower shop using livestream right in the garden.
Mr. Tung explained that now, instead of livestreaming to sell products himself, he chooses to cooperate with flower shops so that they can sell directly at the garden, which is beneficial for both parties. This method helps the flower shop not to have to “hold the goods”, and the family can focus on planting, caring for, and breeding to serve the market.
The flower shop owner livestreams selling orchids right in the garden of Mr. Tung, a farmer in group 3, Ba Phai hamlet, Long Nguyen commune, Bau Bang district (Binh Duong province).
“I joined orchid groups on social networks and posted pictures introducing my orchid garden. Many flower shops came to the garden to learn about its scale and species and offered to cooperate in selling. The livestream sales channel is currently quite effective and popular in the 4.0 era.
In addition, the family also supplies many customers in distant provinces and cities. Depending on the geographical location, I will have a way to cut off water for the flowers to ensure that the flowers are still safe when they reach the customers," Mr. Tung shared.
Mr. Le Hoai Nam, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Long Nguyen Commune, Bau Bang District (Binh Duong Province) said that in the locality, there are many households growing orchids, but only 3 households grow them on a large scale, including Mr. Tung's orchid garden.
In addition to being large in scale, achieving high quality, good products, and a stable market, Mr. Tung’s orchid garden also creates jobs for local workers. The orchid growing model has become a trend in urban agricultural development, contributing to creating beauty and reducing environmental pollution.
Mr. Le Hoai Nam, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Long Nguyen Commune, Bau Bang District (Binh Duong Province): To support members, the commune creates conditions for accessing loans from the Farmers' Support Fund, connecting and introducing output markets through exhibition and fair programs. In addition, it notifies members to participate in training courses and agricultural projects, and encourages members to apply science and technology in production to increase product value.
