(Dan Tri Newspaper) - A US nuclear-powered submarine is believed to have become entangled in fishing nets off the coast of northern Norway.

The Norwegian fishing vessel Oygutt cast its nets after bringing in about 200kg of fish earlier this week. However, instead of a new catch, a 7,800-ton missile submarine became entangled in the nets.
"We were on our way back to the fish farm in Sommaroya when we were informed by the Coast Guard that a submarine had become entangled in our nets," said Harald Engen, the captain of the fishing vessel.
According to Norwegian media, the vessel caught in the net appears to be the USS Virginia, a nuclear-powered, fast attack submarine equipped with cruise missiles, belonging to the US Navy.
The U.S. Navy said the ship was in trouble while visiting Tromso, Norway, as part of an initiative to "protect the increasingly complex security environment in the High North."
The propeller of this 115-meter-long submarine became entangled in fishing nets on November 11th, but it wasn't until several days later that Norwegian media and the US Navy acknowledged what had happened.
Lieutenant Pierson Hawkins, a spokesman for the U.S. Navy's Sixth Fleet, said the incident is under investigation and he would not confirm the name of the ship involved.
Norway is one of the founding members of NATO and borders Russia in the Arctic. The United States has repeatedly sent naval vessels to the region.
