On the evening of October 19, the high tide on the Dong Nai River rose above alert level 2, causing flooding in many areas in Bien Hoa City. Water flooded many residential streets and alleys in Long Binh Tan Ward.
The rising tide has affected the lives of hundreds of households along the Dong Nai River, especially those living in Ba Xe Islet and Thai Hoa Quarter (Long Binh Tan Ward, Bien Hoa City). Many households along the Dong Nai River had to push boats into alleys to pick up their relatives from work.
According to records at around 6pm, the Dong Nai River rose high, causing flooding on many streets in Thai Hoa residential area. Many children and residents seemed to be so familiar with flooding that all activities continued as usual.
A house next to the Dong Nai River is flooded. The high tide level at Bien Hoa station will peak tonight.
"Usually in the 10th lunar month, the tides will rise twice a month. People living along the river are used to the rising tides, so most families raise their houses higher," said Mr. Le Van Khanh (Long Binh Tan ward, Bien Hoa city).
Many workers whose houses are next to the Dong Nai River, in an area where the tide is high, have to leave their motorbikes at a local's house outside and walk home.
A student wades home during the evening when the tide peaked in Thai Hoa neighborhood, Long Binh Tan ward. According to local residents, the water rose in the early morning and late afternoon, making it difficult for students to go to school.
Motorbikes, bicycles and people's belongings were submerged in water when the tide rose.
On October 19, Dong Nai Hydrometeorological Station informed that the water level in the lower reaches of Dong Nai River and La Nga River is at a high level, with a risk of flooding in low-lying areas, adversely affecting water transport activities, aquaculture, and agricultural production in rivers, streams, and river banks.
Accordingly, the water level at 7:00 a.m. the same day at Bien Hoa station (downstream of Dong Nai river) reached 2.01m (exceeding alarm level 2), at Phu Hiep station (La Nga river) reached 104.94m, above alarm level 1.
Dong Nai Hydrometeorological Station warns that low-lying riverside areas in the downstream of Dong Nai River, through Dong Nai, Binh Duong provinces and Ho Chi Minh City, are at risk of flooding due to high tides.
In Bien Hoa city, Ba Xe island area, Thai Hoa residential area (Long Binh Tan ward) is a place that is often heavily flooded when the tide rises.
According to the meteorological agency, in the coming days, the high tide will no longer be high, but due to heavy rain, people need to be on guard against flooding, landslides on river banks, low-lying areas in Tan Phu and Dinh Quan districts; the downstream of Dong Nai river and neighboring areas.
