(Dan Tri) - After 2 days of heavy rain, the flood on Tra Cau River rose very quickly, causing many houses in Quang Ngai to be submerged. Many rice fields in Duc Pho district are also at risk of serious damage.
According to information from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Quang Ngai province, on December 27 and 28, prolonged heavy rains caused the water level on rivers in Nghia Hanh, Tu Nghia, Mo Duc districts and Duc Pho town to rise. In particular, the water level on Tra Cau river rose very quickly, causing flooding in many areas.
Currently, the water level of Tra Cau River has reached alarm level 3, flooding 60 houses in residential group 1 (Pho Minh ward, Duc Pho town), with many houses flooded up to 1 meter deep.
The Duc Pho town government has mobilized forces to support households whose houses are deeply flooded, and to move livestock, cattle, and poultry to safe places. Heavy rains have also flooded 1,200 hectares of newly sown rice in the area, with the risk of serious damage.
Mr. Bui Van Ly, Chairman of Duc Pho Town People's Committee, said that the local government is increasing forces to support the evacuation of deeply flooded households, with the goal of ensuring absolute safety for people's lives and property.
Authorities have also blocked off flooded roads to regulate traffic and guide people to move in other directions.
According to the Quang Ngai Hydrometeorological Station, on the night of December 27 and 28, rainfall measured in some places in the province exceeded 240mm. Heavy rain caused river water levels in the southern part of Quang Ngai province to rise rapidly, especially the Tra Cau River, with the water level reaching alert level 3 on the afternoon of December 28.
Floods on the Tra Cau River are forecast to continue rising in the next 12 hours. In the coming days, Quang Ngai is expected to have rain, causing flooding in some areas. Heavy rains are likely to damage many newly sown rice fields of the people.
In particular, mountainous districts are at high risk of landslides, especially at Mang Ka Muong mountain, Son Bao commune, Son Ha district and mountainous areas in residential group 4, Huong Tra commune, Tra Bong district.
