On the afternoon of September 26th, representatives from Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper (SGGP) visited Viet Duc Friendship Hospital and Bach Mai Hospital to deliver gifts from SGGP readers to support and assist two child patients who were seriously injured in the devastating flash flood in Lang Nu village (in Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province ).
Accordingly, after receiving information from the press about the two hospitals treating two children, Hoang Gia B. (male, 7 years old) and Mong Hoang Thao Ng. (female, 11 years old), reader Lai Ngoc Minh Thu Yuna (in Hamburg, Germany) decided to donate 2,000 Euros to help the two children (1,000 Euros each) and asked a representative of SGGP Newspaper to deliver the donation to the relatives of these two patients.
Thanks to the very meaningful and valuable support from our readers, on the afternoon of September 26th, representatives from SGGP Newspaper visited the Pediatric and Neonatal Surgery Department of Viet Duc Hospital to present the aforementioned donation to Ms. Hoang Thi Kim Cuc, a relative currently caring for Hoang Gia B.
Previously, during the flash flood that occurred on the morning of September 10th, B. suffered multiple severe injuries, while both of her parents died. After being found by local residents, B. was taken to the Lao Cai Provincial General Hospital for emergency treatment, and then transferred to Viet Duc Hospital in a critical condition with liver injury, abdominal injury, kidney and adrenal gland injury, fractured femur, head and facial wounds… among which the open wound to the skull was diagnosed as the most severe.
Immediately after admission, doctors at Viet Duc Hospital held a multidisciplinary consultation and proceeded with surgery. After 5 hours, the surgery was successful. To date, after more than two weeks of focused treatment and dedicated care from doctors and nurses, patient B.'s health has gradually stabilized, and the child is now alert and able to converse normally with others.
Later that same day, representatives from SGGP Newspaper also visited the Intensive Care Unit of Bach Mai Hospital to hand over the money donated by the newspaper's readers to Ms. Hoang Thi Dip, the mother of patient Mong Hoang Thao Ng.
At the time of the flash flood, Ng.'s parents were working far away, and the little girl was staying with her maternal grandparents, Hoang Ngoc Vinh, in Lang Nu village. The flash flood killed four out of five people in Mr. Vinh's house; the remaining survivor, Ng., was found by villagers about two hours after the floodwaters receded.
When the villagers found her, Ng. was submerged in mud and unconscious. Upon being taken to the emergency room, Ng. had to be intubated and transferred to Bach Mai Hospital due to her critical condition. Ng. was admitted with pneumonia due to drowning, inhalation of a large amount of mud, and multiple injuries…
Throughout her treatment at Bach Mai Hospital, patient Ng. received very active and attentive care from the doctors and nurses, with numerous hospital-wide consultations and consultations with Japanese experts to find the best treatment plan.
To date, after intensive treatment, the health of patient Ng. has improved somewhat, but remains in a serious condition, requiring mechanical ventilation, a combination of antibiotics, nutritional support, and rehabilitation. Furthermore, due to inhaling mud and prolonged immersion in water, Ng.'s respiratory tract has suffered severe damage. The hospital continues to focus all its best resources on treating Ng. for a speedy recovery.
