TPO - The Board of Directors of Saigon Polytechnic College recently went to the hospital to present an honorary diploma to a student with a serious illness.
Dr. Hoang Van Phuc, Principal of Saigon Polytechnic College, said that on the afternoon of February 18, the school's Board of Directors went to Cho Ray Hospital to award an honorary diploma to a student with cancer who is currently being treated there. The student who received the diploma is Pham Viet Xo, Faculty of Automotive Engineering Technology, from Hung Ha, Thai Binh.
Xo was diagnosed with mediastinal cancer while studying in his second year at Saigon Polytechnic College.
"After reviewing Xo's learning and training process, the school decided to grant him an honorary bachelor's degree with the hope that he will have more motivation to overcome his illness and continue his life," said Mr. Phuc.
The Board of Directors of Saigon Polytechnic College also decided to refund 100% of the tuition fee that Xo had paid. At the same time, they called on all staff, lecturers, and students to join hands to support Xo so that he could have funds for medical treatment.
"By the evening of the same day when the appeal was made, the school had raised more than 10 million VND," said Mr. Phuc, adding that he would continue to mobilize more benefactors outside the school to contribute to help the family overcome difficulties.
At the hospital, Xo's family received an honorary bachelor's degree from Vice Principal Nguyen Hoang Hung. The family expressed their gratitude to the school's leadership, teachers and everyone who supported and helped Pham Viet Xo.
